I know fans of the books are upset about that (I've never read the books). I wonder if Disney didn't want to promote bad behavior by kids or something so they made him a good kid...?D82 wrote:it's a shame Disney has transformed him into the typical hero

Re: Artemis Fowl
I haven't read the books either, so I don't know how mean he is there, but if Disney was worried he could be a bad example for children, they could've toned that aspect of him down a bit instead of completely changing his personality. After all, Disney has had characters who aren't completely good at first like Kuzco, Stitch or the live-action Maleficent. Though none of these characters are kids, so maybe you have a point there. And, who knows, maybe he's still a bit like in the books at first but the trailer didn't show it.blackcauldron85 wrote:I know fans of the books are upset about that (I've never read the books). Speaking of this, I'm still surprised they're going to release a film like Cruella in which the main character is evil and won't be redeemed at the end. If I'm not mistaken, it's the first time Disney does something like that in a children's film. If Joker, which was for adults, was controversial because of that, I wonder if the same will happen with Cruella.

Re: Artemis Fowl
I think it still looks good! And they did call Artemis a criminal Mastermind, and they didn't say only in the book...

Re: Artemis Fowl
Meanwhile the promotion for 'Artemis Fowl' is still going on, I guess Disney does not intend to postpone this one so far.Sotiris wrote:TV spot:

Lol, I guess they don't feel like it'll make much of a difference whether they release it now or not.

Dreamworks Animation/Universal’s Trolls World Tour and now Disney’s former post Memorial Day weekend release Artemis Fowl are worthy experiments given how studios’ hands are currently tied in the current frozen theatrical marketplace. Disney will announce the release date for Artemis Fowl sometime in the near future for its streaming service.

Re: Artemis Fowl
Isn't it weird to move Artemis Fowl to Disney+, but release theatrically The One and Only Ivan which is even less popular?
Re: Artemis Fowl
Maybe it's just because Artemis Fowl was going to be released earlier. If theaters haven't reopened by August, I think The One and Only Ivan will go to Disney + too.Sotiris wrote:Isn't it weird to move Artemis Fowl to Disney+, but release theatrically The One and Only Ivan which is even less popular?

Re: Artemis Fowl
Disney just needed an excuse to make this film a Disney+ exclusive. I'm far more likely to watch this now although I never read the books so I'm not super interested.

Since this movie was supposed to open theatrically and was only moved to Disney+ because of the health crisis, it was most certainly going to receive a DVD/blu-ray release following its exit from theatres.
Now that it has moved to the streaming service, does that make it an exclusive? So forget the physical disc release?
I hope not. While I was never interested in this film, if Disney does that it sets a precedent for whatever theatrical film they now decide to transfer to Disney+. What if that eventually affects also the animated films? Fingers crossed for Pixar/WDAS/Blue Sky.

Re: Artemis Fowl
I'm afraid so. The updated poster for the movie has the Disney+ logo like the other Disney+ originals and the website that was set up for it now re-directs to the book series. I wouldn't hold my breath for a home video release.Jules wrote:Since this movie was supposed to open theatrically and was only moved to Disney+ because of the health crisis, it was most certainly going to receive a DVD/blu-ray release following its exit from theatres. Didn't they do the same thing with Noelle? The movie was completed and had a theatrical release date until it was suddenly pulled off the calendar. You don't need to worry about WDAS/Pixar films. They are too expensive to ever become Disney+ exclusives. I could see though Nimona and/or Ron's Gone Wrong going that route. I doubt it will happen, but it's possible.Jules wrote:While I was never interested in this film, if Disney does that it sets a precedent for whatever theatrical film they now decide to transfer to Disney+. Re: Artemis Fowl
In regards to "Ron's Gone Wrong" and other Fox titles inherited from the merger, I believe they are contractually obligated to give them a theatrical release. They also can't just unload them on Disney+ or Hulu, because of a pre-existing streaming deal HBO has for new 20th Century Fox movies until 2022. That's why, despite the speculation, Disney isn't putting "New Mutants" on one of their streaming services.
With "Artemis Fowl", I think Disney looked at the pre-release tracking and realised they were going to lose money either way on the movie and figured they might as well give Disney+ some extra original content while everyone is at home. Plus, whatever money they will lose by putting "Artemis Fowl" on Disney+ instead of theatres is probably a pittance compared to what Disney is losing every day with the theme parks (the most lucrative area of the company) being closed for what will likely be several months. They're not going to debut a Marvel movie or "Mulan" or a Pixar film on Disney+, because the expectations are a lot higher for their box-office performances.

Re: Artemis Fowl
I'm not so sure about that.. I mean, I really don't want to pretend I know the intentions of the company or anything, especially regarding 'Artemis Fowl'. But do you think a Blu-ray of "The Mandalorian" will never happen for instance? If it makes money, some exclusives might get a physical release perhaps even if it takes time.. yet I am totally uncertain about "Artemis Fowl".Sotiris wrote:I'm afraid so.
