And people wonder why Tangled gets compared to Dreamworks films all the time. And frankly, Dreamworks films like Shrek are way funnier.

I would not be surprised if that's why Chicken Little turned out that way. However from what I heard, the previous version of Rapunzel was supposed to be more cynical, and they decided to go for something more sincere. Tangled is more sincere than Shrek, even if its humor is similar to a DreamWorks film, the characters and music are similar to the Disney Renaissance films, and its story and structure are very much similar to a Pixar film.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened with Chicken Little. There was a lot of executive meddling on the movie, with Mark Dindal being forced to change so many of his original ideas.

I would KILL for a pure, unflinching look (in documentary form) of the making of Chicken Little. The film is universally hated. I don't think it is a good movie either, but it fascinates me. Do you know where I can find out more about it, estefan?

See, I would KILL for something like that with Tangled focusing on Rapunzel Unbraided and Glen Keane's Rapunzel, specifically the latter. In public appearances, Keane has disclosed that legally he's not allowed to say much about his version of the film which is a shame. Even if Disney could adapt it into a novelization or graphic novel, I would be very pleased with that.

I don't know if we will ever find out the nitty-gritty of what happened during the production of "Chicken Little." The most of what we know is that because it was Disney's attempt to show Pixar they didn't need Pixar (during their brief break-up), Michael Eisner and the other executives were very heavily involved in the film's creation.

Any interview I've seen with Mark Dindal, it's clear he's someone who doesn't like throwing specific people under the bus. I hope he gets the chance to direct another movie. He was supposed to be directing an animated Garfield movie, but I don't know what the status of that is after Nickelodeon bought the character.

Yeah, I assumed the Dreamworksy-version of 'Rapunzel' (back when it was called Unbraided) had to have come from Eisner's direction. A little of it stayed with the film regardless, via Flynn's narration that dampens the prologue. I guess this is what changing executives can do to a film. In this case, Lasseter ended up giving us a better version than Eisner would've given us--although not as good as what Glen Keane would've delivered, I imagine.

I just got an email from Hot Topic: "Tangled 10th Anniversary pieces are here!"-- Those Corona shirts are either going to sell like hotcakes or they won't sell much at all, I'm guessing!

(Some really cute merch...I'm being good and not spending money (except at the vet this afternoon because of my dog's ear infection...), but cute stuff nonetheless! Can LoungeFly stop making cute bags?! So many cute bags I'm not buying! :p)

I'm sorry about your dog's infection, I'm glad you were able to take him/her to the vet. Possible pet, computer, or car bills are why I try to control my spending. My cat passed away last year, one that I'd had since around 2005-6, so now I only have one pet (a dog) and she's ten years old at least now. :( I already have to give her medicine for incontinence and that started when I had to take her to a vet for a UTI. HotTopic is really tempting... They have so many great things I never see anywhere else I shop, and not just for Disney. Covers or throws feel like the hardest things for me to resist... I once saw one that was of the Muses from Hercules that looked almost like a tapestry in a way and I really, really wanted it.

I'm glad you're enjoying the TV show, DisneyFan97. That's a shame about Flynn/Eugene's voice actor. Zachary Levi in the original English adds a lot to the character, so I'm not sure the show would've felt the same if he had been replaced in the English version of the TV show.

DD, I'm going to PM you! I, too, love blankets, comforters, along other things... speaking of dogs, mine tend to ruin those things; we need to get more comforters, but those are expensive and I can just pile on the blankets...

I agree about Zachary Levi- he's such a good actor for Flynn...he's charming and mischievous (as Flynn ... probably in real life, too... idk about mischievous!)...and of course I think Mandy as Rapunzel is perfection.

Some never-before-seen concept art by Mike Gabriel from the upcoming book "They Drew as They Pleased: The Hidden Art of Disney's New Golden Age".
Creatively, Mike Gabriel had never been more satisfied with his work, and his next project took him to new heights. "I got into the equally, if not the most rewarding thing of all, which was working on Rapunzel with Glen Keane. I got to do character design and storyboards and concepts... The first thing [Glen] asked me is, 'Can you mimic a bit of [Chagall]?' He gave me a poster he had of some ceiling Chagall did... I just started getting to learn to draw and paint like Chagall as best I could... Then I would just do these images of Rapunzel, as if she painted them on the wall, and he said, 'Just [draw] whatever she might be dreaming about, her wishes and her dream.' I even drew the dream drawings really large and made them as Chagall-like as possible. That was so cool to see these huge impressionistic giant drawings: they were almost as big as four by eight sheets of paper. Glen and I spread them all out on the floor... Then we planned out the camera moves on them and plotted it out, coming to me crawling around on hands and knees, and Glen put it all to music for his story reel... For the temp music they picked really cool music from The Snowman: "I'm Walking in the Air." Every time people would see it they would get a chill, because it's pretty evocative. It ends with Glen's drawings and Rapunzel now is grown up. You watch her go from a little child into this frown woman who's now drawn every square inch of her space on the tower walls and has hit the very top of her tower... That was really fun. I worked on [Rapunzel] for another year or two doing character designs and storyboards in black charcoal."

Beautiful. Thanks for posting.

As for the Gothel concept designs, I would've preferred something more like the bottom left design. I understand though, why they would want the character to be more young and able to move around very easily. Since they decided not to give her magic, she had to be threatening somehow, I guess. :/

It would take me a very long time to view, so (for anyone who's seen it) is it worth it? And by that I mean, are there any additional songs not from the film?

^ That was wonderful- thank you for posting! I'd seen some of the show on YouTube before but it was nice to see this proshot. It's a good example of animation being the best medium (IMO) (for example, the teardrop; there were other things I thought of as I watched but don't remember now). Really enjoyable!

DD, I was posting but then you posted first! Yes, there are new songs and new reprises. It does follow the movie fairly closely (but there are changes, such as no Pascal). I personally got a lot of joy from watching it, so I recommend it! I mean, you can always pause it & watch the rest later! :)

It was lovely. The pacing was a bit weird though, seemed like they rushed through the second half, and it's weird they didn't put any credits, not even in the description.
