Yeah, also Raya is in advanced stages of production that if it has problems, they might as well just release it because not releasing it means more financial damage. See for example The Good Dinosaur.

I don't understand why people are acting so shocked and outraged at Pixar because Soul got Raya's release date. Soul was meant to come out first, they weren't going to push Soul after Raya. If Raya been the film that was meant to be released this summer while Soul was the fall release, then obviously Raya would be released before Soul. It's just common sense.

I know there's a lot of Pixar haters here but does everything have to be a conspiracy dedicated to Pixar one-upping Disney? It's always the same few posters freaking out over stuff like this too. Honestly, get a grip because it gets tiresome to see the same few posts over and over complaining about Pixar or Lin-Manuel Miranda and how Disney is "beholden" to them.

Just as you predicted, farerb. I saw something like that coming too, not only because it was unlikely Soul would be able to open in June, but also because I don't think they would be able to finish Raya under these circumstances, even when some of the employees are working from their homes.

Members should be able to express themselves freely (provided they don't violate the rules). We all have to put up with posts we don't like. That's how things work on a message board. Some people may find your posts tiresome too. That doesn't mean you should stop voicing your opinion or censor yourself to cater to them.

DisneyEra wrote:Following in Gigantic's footsteps. Expect Raya's cancelled announcement this Fall. What a mess for Walt Disney Animation Studios
If Raya is anything like Gigantic it deserves to be cancelled. Then again, WIR2 was so absolutely terrible that maybe even the worst of Gigantic would have been better off existing instead. To this day it astounds me that there could be fans of the original film who loved WIR2, or even more disconcerting, fans of the Disney Princesses who were fine with their commercialized depiction in this film. Thank goodness even Disney execs weren't impressed enough to greenlight a spinoff franchise of those bobble-headed bimbos.

I don't think so either. It's just Onward already lost money, so the other PIXAR film was going to get focus to make up for it.

I think it's a shame Raya is going to get a Spring release now though. It was going to be a big November release, it would make more sense to put it in the Summer where blockbusters are supposed to go or delay it a whole year to November 2021 than drop it in the Spring. Yeah, Raya is not getting cancelled. I agree with Tristy on that point.

March is hardly a lesser month, though. A lot of movies have done really well in March. Last year had Captain Marvel and Us. 2017 was maybe one of the biggest Marches ever, with Logan, Beauty and the Beast, Kong: Skull Island and The Boss Baby all performing like traditional summer movies. Zootopia, Batman v Superman and 10 Cloverfield Lane opened in March 2016 and found sizable audiences there, especially Zootopia.

Disney isn't going to treat Raya like a lesser movie because it's opening in the spring. Disney will probably give it most of their marketing attention there, since The Eternals opens a month before, Ron's Gone Wrong is a movie they're only contractually obligated to release and Bob's Burgers is a much lower budget movie that isn't targeting the same family audience.

That's true about B&tB and Zootopia. I'm confident it's going to be a hit regardless of which date, but I guess Summer and Thanksgiving dates always feel like a bigger deal to me somehow.

Well, now that this delay has finally been confirmed, it wasn't unexpected by any means. But it's still very disappointing. Considering there's been practically no information whatsoever about this project (besides the leaked concept art from last years D23 Expo and the videos), it wasn't a surprise that it eventually became postphoned. I was looking forward to this project, so it practically means that we won't get anything new from WDAS this year. But hey, I won't bitch about the Pixar/WDAS feud here, so I'll shut up about it.

The artwork that DisneyEra posted on the previous page: I guess I hadn't seen such a wide picture, maybe just a close-up before, or I just never noticed: But Sisu is in the clouds in that concept art! I'm even more impressed with that artwork now!!! (I couldn't 'quote' the attachment, but it's on the previous page of this thread!)

I'd love to hear your thoughts on it since I know you're not one of those belligerent posters who believes everything is a conspiracy dedicated to serving Pixar.

I agree. Even though I wish it was a musical to put the cherry on top, I was very much anticipating this film.

Usually that means that the film will probably be cancelled.

You can't be serious! WDAS would never cancel an original animated feature :P

I'm serious. Jennifer Lee announce to the whole world that they are heading to "all-hands-on-deck". That usually implies that the film is cancelled.

You're welcome! It's been a long time since we chatted like we used to on here.

I can't tell if you're joking here or if you actually mean that.

Perhaps. But if they are going to cancel it, I’d think they’d want to draw LESS attention to the film rather than a tease followed by an official announcement.

Well if this film is cancelled, at least they have an excuse with COVID-19.
