This is going to be really creepy....I don't like what they did in The Lion King and Lady and the Tramp and here the characters are antropomorphic so the result can be more creepy than it is right now. They could made a new version of Robin Hood with humans and the Disney touch, make it more different than the classic one...

I'm imagining Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox here, but I think it will actually look good.

Lion King has been criticized by some for not making the animals expressive enough (then again, there are always someone who will find something to complain about). That shouidn't be a problem here. Even Sir Hiss should have an expressive face. And unlike Lady and the Tramp, it will not be a live action and CGI mix. It will be all CGI, including the backgrounds. Luckily technology has progressed a lot since Dinosaur, which was not able to do CGI backgrounds.

It's gonna be interesting to see what they have in mind. If anything, it will not be like Cats. Hopefully Little John will look a little more anthropomorphic than Baloo.

Look at it this way, they'll have to release the original as a tie-in (and to commemorate its 50th anniversary) not just on DVD and Blu-ray...but also 4K Ultra.

Not necessarily. They haven't done that with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book.

But they did do it for Beauty and The Beast this year.

And they're planning the same for Mulan (1998).

Which are both films from the 90s which were made with CAPS, not traditionally hand-drawn films from the Walt era or pre-Renaissance. The Little Mermaid is the one exception.

I think this is a good thing, personally. A reason the Disney film has its cult fanbase is partly because of their unique animal take, imo. To abandon that, the film would look like every other Robin Hood flop out there and there's no way you would be able to tell this was a re-make of the Disney film.

Plus, I doubt they'll be as strict as with TLK, where they had to re-create entire shots almost identically, brought back one of the original voice actors, etc. I want it to be mostly like the original, but that's going way too far.

I think you would be able to tell if it had the same plot, characterization, and songs. Making the characters anthropomorphic animals is a disaster waiting to happen. Do you have faith it won't end up looking uncanny and unappealing? 'Cause I don't.

It seems the project has been put on the back burner.

The interviewer asks again about Robin Hood and Carlos says: “For now it doesn’t have a release date, we don’t have plans for it yet I hope one day we can continue with this project but for now I think they’re still figuring out some internal stuff.”

I posted some info about Carlos López Estrada's 2023 WDAS film from that same interview a couple of months ago, but I didn't realize the Robin Hood film he was talking about there was also from Disney. They must really like him at Disney if they've offered him to direct three different projects (Raya, the other WDAS film and this remake). He's also a member of the Disney Story Trust and not every director at WDAS is. I've yet to watch Blindspotting, (the movie that made Disney hire him) and I'm very curious about it now. It must be really good if it impressed Disney so much.

Like Sotiris, I would prefer a remake with real actors, mainly because otherwise it would be just remaking a 2D film in CGI and I don't like that, but I agree with you that the animal take is what makes the Disney version stand apart from the rest of the adaptations. Without that element, in my opinion, it wouldn't really be a remake of the Disney film. It's the same I think about Hercules, only that in the case of that film, it's the songs and the humor what I think makes it unique.
