Which TLM restoration were you referring to Farerb? Diamond or Signature?

Both actually. I think the Diamond Edition might be more accurate to that 35mm German print, but I don't know how much that print is accurate to the negative (the colors in the print are dull). I find the Signature Edition with HDR to have richer colors, which I like (like Ariel's hair is more red than the browny red in the Diamond and the water is more blue than grey).

Hmmm.... to be honest, I only own the Diamond edition and I am very happy with it.

But I looked up a comparison... the colors are a little richer in the Signature, but I feel like the linework gets drowned out because of it... (specially in the red of her hair). Also, one can tinker with one's tv settings to achieve a similar look.
At the end of the day, they both look good... and the difference is mild.

Yeah, that's true. I guess if I watch on TV with HDR, I'll prefer the Signature Collection. If I want to watch the film in Hebrew then I'll prefer the Diamond Edition cause the Diamond DVD was released in Hebrew so I took the audio and put it on the Blu-ray video. I guess that might not work on the Signature version though.

Wait Fareb... so neither TLM blu ray release in Israel has the hebrew dub??? Seriously???

And how do you take the audio from a dvd and "put it" on a blu ray??

They stopped releasing Blu-rays in Israel around 2011, The Little Mermaid wasn't released on Blu-ray at all. It was released on DVD in 2013 before they stopped with that as well. Of course it was the version with the editing mistakes and they didn't even bother to fix this.

I have both the US release of the 3D Diamond Edition and the Israeli DVD. I ripped the video from the Blu-ray, ripped the audio from the DVD and combined them together in a new MKV file.

Of course I took the 2D version, not the 3D one (which btw has the mistake and Disney didn't bother to fix it).

I am very surprised to hear that... maybe the size of the population of Israel doesnt warrant a blu ray release??... but they could have done a release for a bunch of countries in the area and then make sure they had a bunch of dubs on it.

Maybe blu rays didn't do very well that part of the world?

Glad to hear you have found ways to work around it.

Physical media is pretty much dead here. Israeli tends to get their films illegally unfortunately.

Sounds like here in the Balkans... I've had friends call me crazy for purchasing DVDs and Blu-rays when I could have all that "for free".

Same here. I even don't think most people know what Blu-ray even is. It's insane because we do have some merch, especially Funko pops, and here I am thinking "you're willing to spend money on these because they are merch from movies you love, but you're not willing to spend money on the actual movies?!".

Same. There are a few shops that sell merchandise, Funko Pops, mugs, toys, etc. but almost no one seems to buy actual physical media. Not that there's any physical media industry left - last Disney/Pixar DVD release here was Cars 3, and they stopped producing Blu-rays years before that.

Some of the people I know seem to be fans just for the show. Like, they'd buy keychains, or wear a T-shirt, or go see a movie on the opening night, just so others can see they're fans. But they'd never get their supposedly favorite movie on a DVD or Blu-ray. I'm not even sure they watched it more than once (on that same opening night). It just feels disingenuous.*

*Sorry, I don't mean to turn this into one of those "real vs. fake fans" debates.

Yeah I get that. There are more casual fans that love "the brand" than actually trying to explore everything there is to know about the films themselves, the ones that would just post a meme on a Facebook group now and then, the ones that don't even know that Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King have mistakes in them (they never bothered fixing The Lion King on VOD services here) and the ones who still think that Cinderella's dress is blue.

Very sorry to hear that.

I will say I know a lot of people abandoning physical media. I stick to it because I love special features, especially audio commentaries.

But hey.... maybe they will have the movies in hebrew when they launch Disney+ in Israel!

I don't really care about the Hebrew version of films beside The Little Mermaid, and even that I don't watch very often. I'm sure there will be hebrew versions on D+ in Israel when it arrives...in 2021. However I don't plan to get D+ because I already own the films I care about from Disney on Blu-ray, and I don't really care about their original content.

Seems like the SDR of disc is similar to the Blu-ray, so I don't want anyone to buy it based on my words and be disappointment eventually.

Looks like the Blu-ray but way sharper, HDR is so colourful and I’ve noticed so many things I’ve never seen before. Totally worth it!
