As much as I have bitched about the movie, I’m very curious to see it and keep an open mind about the finished product. I really don’t know if they can pull off what they’re trying to do. I want to avoid all reviews and I’ll even try to avoid seeing aggregate critics’ scores for the movie, too.

I'm never able to watch the videos on that website. I hope the clip gets uploaded to Youtube soon.

If they had no problem doing dirty Alan Menken and Elton John, they sure wouldn't care about a smaller fry like Wilder. I'm sure if they had let him, he would have written something better. It's such a shame. They wouldn't even let him have this after turning Mulan into a non-musical.
I agree it's unfair they didn't offer him to write it. Especially when they have given that opportunity to other original composers before like Alan Menken or Elton John (even though they could've been treated better) and they are even bringing Christina Aguilera back. And I found this song not bad because I usually don't expect much from end credits songs, but I also have no doubts that Wilder could've made a much better one.

Yes, it most certainly is. Why does Disney think musical songwriters are incapable of writing pop songs? It's actually easier than writing plot or character-based ones. Menken wasn't allowed to write the end credit songs for Tangled and Tangled: The Series either for some inexplicable reason. But you're right in that at least he and Elton John got to write some new material and all of their songs were carried over in the remakes, something that was not afforded to Matthew. I actually thought they would have let him write the new song when Aguilera first mentioned it as a form of consolation or apology for cutting all of his songs from the film, but that would have been too considerate and thoughtful for Disney.

I agree; it's not bad, but not great either. I'm a bit surprised though it took four people to write it.

Do you think, in that moment, the commanding officer + is that her love interest? know who Mulan's dad is, + they know of no son, so they're suspicious? Because obviously in the original, it wasn't until she was injured and the medic spilled the beans...

No, neither of them know. She outs herself as a woman after the conversation she has with the Witch that was featured in the trailers.

Thanks! I liked the clip. However, I don't find Mulan too convincing as a man. I don't think it's Liu Yifei's fault, her acting is not bad here; it's just that she looks too feminine for the role. Anyway, I guess it's more difficult to do this in live action than in animation. In the original they actually cheat a bit by making the shape of her face a little more angular when she's in disguise, for example. And, come to think of it, in other movies I've seen where a woman is disguised as a man, like Yentl for example, the transformation is not completely convincing either. Maybe when you're watching the movie, you forget about it.

Yes, that's the reason why I think they didn't ask him to write it. But, you're right, it's not true that musical songwriters can't write pop songs. Alan Menken has proved this several times.

Well, I think her acting does affect the believability of her disguise. I find her quite wooden actually, especially when she talks. Maybe it's because of the language barrier. Her performance improves in nonverbal scenes. As for the overall scene from the clip, it's not outright bad, but it comes off as somewhat sterile and dry to me.

Well, though I found her performance in that clip acceptable, I'm actually a bit worried about her acting in the film because, excluding the scenes at the beginning, I did find her a bit inexpressive in the trailers. But, we'll see. Maybe it's just because they mainly show her action scenes where she has to be concentrated.

I love it! I wonder if she is going to record that song in English, too...

I also love Christina Aguilera's new song! I'm so glad that she is the one for the credits, like in the animated one!

I’m floored by these. Disney must have left out a ton from the trailers because I never would’ve guessed the movie these people are talking about was the one they’ve been advertising. I know first reactions are usually more positive, but these are glowing. I might actually be excited about this now.

Is that supposed to be the transformation sequence? It's painfully underwhelming. I knew they wouldn't have her cut her hair, but I never realized they would scrap the entire sequence and transition to her wearing her father's armor immediately.

Matthew Wilder confirmed she recorded an English version too. Hopefully, it will be released soon.

I'm also glad Christina got a new song; I just wish it had been written by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel instead of some random pop songwriters.

No offense, but I find the score in that scene incredibly plain, and when compared to Jerry Goldsmith's music in the corresponding scene from the original, it sounds even worse.
