Questions regarding the DVD packaging/edition of BDs...

Post by DC Fan »

I´ve been wondering about this for some time and forgot to ask.

The DVD version/packaging of BD was something that didn´t happen in Spain (I´m guessing in Europe and many countries as well). I knew about this when going back to Puerto Rico and saw them on sale.

So, here are my questions:

1. What is it?

2. What is that about? Was that something done in order for people to help "transition" from BD to DVD? By that I mean that if the idea was so that Disney fans could start buying the movies in the new format and still look as part of their DVDs?

3. Was it successful? Is that something that´s still going on?

4. If they stopped doing it and you were the one buying them, how do you feel now?

Soon after Disney started releasing Blu-rays, they decided to do two packaging: a Blu-ray package and a DVD package. It's basically for marketing, not only to help people "transition". The DVD packages were placed on DVD shelves while the Blu-ray package was on the Blu-ray shelves.

It's no longer a thing, maybe because Disney were the only ones doing it and people either bought Blu-rays or DVDs, but the ones buying Blu-rays don't really need it in a DVD package.

I personally only have the Diamond Edition of Beauty and the Beast in a DVD package, but I also have the 3D, which comes in a Blu-ray package.
