In the book The Art of Disney Costuming: Heroes, Villains, and Spaces Between, the second section is actually alllll about Cinderella's ball gown! I love that, and the whole book so far, though I haven't read very far into it, but the first part of it talks about the Disney animated film one. And it keeps saying it's silver and gray! It even points out that Marc Davis's sketches of possible designs for the gown are all in silver/gray (and the Prince is clearly wearing red and blue), and says the color is like the moonlight in "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" and when Cinderella is outside with the Prince. So it really confirms Cinderella wears a silver gown. I wonder why a Disney artist told me the castle interior was changed from blue to pink so Cinderella's blue gown would stand out. Maybe they just meant the blue it turns in the dark. Or maybe he just didn't know they meant silver, not blue, was why they changed it to pink.

I'm glad we have further confirmation about her dress color since they are still some naysayers who claim it was blue and always meant to be blue. I've even read old Walt Disney books which flat out call her dress silver or gray. I only wish they would set the record straight on her hair color.

It's possible the artist was referring to the fact that most of the time we see Cinderella in the palace, her dress is blue because of the lighting. Such as when the prince first sees her and the entire So This is Love segment. Only the scene where she first enters the palace and walks down the hallway and up the staircase and the scene where she is running down the staircase and loses her slipper are where her dress is properly silver.

Oh, I wish I could read those books. I heard from Fanpop her hair is burnt orange officially but maybe that isn't "setting the record straight" because it's not recorded in a Disney publication?

I think you are right about why the guy thought her dress was blue. It is blue in those moments, but you forgot some more times it is silver: when they first start to dance and the room looks purple, though strangely it seems to turn from blue to silver as the lights turn purple, it's weird, when her stepfamily sees her, when they are in the palace garden it is silver in un-shadowed parts, on the bridge, and finally, when she runs back into the ballroom and passes the Grand Duke.

Burnt orange or titian is what I've heard too but I wish there was some written record or confirmation of that from Disney. Like in an old Disney book or something new, just to properly confirm that so people would stop calling her blonde or even strawberry blonde.

The part where her stepfamily are watching her dance with the prince through the crowd is one of the scenes where they didn't even bother changing her dress to a more blue shade in the Platinum/Diamond/Signature Edition restoration, maybe because of how briefly we see her. Unlike scenes like when she's entering the palace or running from it, where clearly the dress has been altered from silver to light blue.

I thought it was strawberry blonde myself, but I thought Fanpop meant that it is in the official records as burnt orange, and we would just need to see them to know that?

Strawberry blonde seems more like the light orange, almost yellow-orange, color of hair she has in the flawed DVD and Blu-Ray restoration. The VHS, Laserdisc, and older promotional material makes her hair a much darker orange, specifically burnt orange.

Actually when I was young and saw the VHS her hair looked to me like very dark blonde, or brown. That is my memory. I'd have to re-watch my old VHS tapes!

I always saw it as a muddy orange and quite brown in some shots too. Interestingly enough, the Disney Princess Personality Profile game on the Sleeping Beauty Special Edition DVD called Cinderella a dark blonde while Aurora was a light blonde.

I'm away from my computer over the weekend, so I can't post it now, but there is a Youtube video that shows the evolution of Cinderella from VHS to Blu-ray, and in the first three VHS versions her hair looks brownish orangish blonde to me, and in the third one it looks brownish blonde or dark blonde. I like the 1995 VHS one the most because I like her as a dark blonde. I have a thing for blond hair actually. I wish I could find out from the Disney archives what her hair really is!

Lol. If you click on the first link, the entire pin with that logo has Cinderella as she looks in the film...to a degree.

I, too, wish we got original Cinderella's look in the official logo, but oh well.

And indeed, that first pin is based right off of a drawing from the actual film. Colors are off, but at least the characters look close-to-right.

The middle drawing is okay. That last picture though... And the longer I looked at it, I couldn't help thinking it looks like a drag queen. I think part of it was that there's zero detail where the neck, collar bone, and chest are along with the goofy makeup.

In the past, they’d push out a DVD and maybe some merchandise to coincide specifically with that, but this feels different. Now Disney creates these anniversary logos and there are year-long tie in’s at the parks with special merchandise and food options. Or has it always been this way and I’m only aware of it now? In any case, I’m glad to see Disney honor these films at all.

It's not entirely new. Obviously I was too young to remember both (being born in 1988), but the 50th anniversary re-releases of Snow White and Fantasia were both marketed heavily around the fact that the films were 50 years old, and it appears there were a lot of promotional items and events celebrating their anniversaries too (see this post on Snow White, and if you do a Google search, you'll find stuff for Fantasia's 50th anniversary too).

Disney also has been releasing special dolls for the anniversaries of the princess films. So far they have done Snow White's 80th, Sleeping Beauty's 60th, The Little Mermaid's 30th, and The Princess and the Frog's 10th.

I love them! They're so beautiful and have nice details! I love Gus in Cinderella's apron pocket, her scissors and spools of thread hanging, her laced bodice, her flower embroidery! I love the ribbon-like neckline of Cinderella's wedding attire, the tiara, the silver filigree embroidery, even what looks like a "C" on her dress, and the silvery blue underskirt! And Prince Charming's medals, braid, and epaulettes, plus some great gold embroidery of his own!
