wow, angry scowls and everyone's got a weapon, that back cover art shows you just how sexism goes both ways. Its as bad as the 2000's era Princess art with the dainty poses/vacant expressions and jewel studded gowns.

and now girls are smart and badass and boys are accessories, reluctant dudebros or villains...

I don't think this is an accurate description of the male characters of the revival, but I do agree about the statement in regards to the differences between the Disney Adventurers v. Disney Princesses artwork. Feminism isn't just about dismantling cultural expectations for women, but men as well. This ties into my post at the top of the page, actually--the belief that Disney is "for girls" because their films have songs, or that they aren't violent / subversive enough for boys. Those attitudes about what men and women can like or be are pervasive.

Peter Pan's expression is unintentionally hilarious! It's so weird they included Captain Hook with the rest of the heroes. I mean they could have added John Smith or Phoebus or Li Shang or even Beast for crying out loud.

Really? I always quite liked that clipart for him.

Hook was always included as part of the toy line so that the heroes would have a villain to fight against. He was basically the main villain of the series whether it was called Disney Heroes or Disney Adventurers. To be fair, Disney barely treats Hook like a villain anyway and he's often grouped with all the heroes in merchandise even if other villains aren't there (one example below). Not a surprise considering even Walt refused to kill him off because he knew the audience would have fallen too much in love with him by then.

I'm very glad she won. I've only seen her in three movies, but I loved her in all of them. She's one of the reasons I'm excited for Raya and the Last Dragon. I think she could contribute to create a great Disney sidekick.

In between Raya she has a TV series later this month on Comedy Central, where BD Wong "Shane from Mulan" plays her Dad. And a role in Marvel's Shang-Chi. Excited to see how she will promote Sisu later this year.

I haven’t seen The Farewell, but I’m also happy she won. She’s been great in everything else she’s been in, and so far she’s the most exciting part about not only Raya but The Little Mermaid Live-Action film as well. Her casting in the latter is the only perfect, ingenious casting for the latter, imo.

I also really Awkwafina ! :)

She was really good in Ocean's 8 and dide suprub voice work in The Angry Birds movie 2

Really enjoy her comedy music albums on Spotify too.

I think Sisu could be like the morden day quivalent of the genie( a magical creature who is a comedic sidekick and voiced by a huge celebrity) I REALLY hope Awkwafina gets to improvise a lot of her dialogue like Robin Williams did in that movie !

The result could be something truely great and hilarious

I know that I'm repeating myself and whining, but I'm still bummed that we haven't got nothing from this movie besides from what was confirmed from last years D23 Expo.

I personally liked the film and I agree that Awkwafina did a really good job in it. It's a shame she wasn't nominated for the Oscar, but at least she won the Golden Globe and is having a great moment in her career.

So more voice cast members would be nice and a reveal of some art of the main villain too ! in my opinion !

With about just ten months left, I would have expected even a little teaser at this point.

Been nearly 5 months since Raya's announcement last August, not a peep since. Wouldn't be surprised if it's delayed/shelved

FFS. Frozen II's first teaser came in February. Ralph's was in March. There's no reason to think it will come sooner than that.
Really what's with this negative attitude? Anyone who knows Disney's time table knows they usually only start to promote 7-8 months before the films are released.

It's not a negative attitude, just a little amazement that we haven't seen anything yet except for a little concept art.

No, there is no reason to assume that it is cancelled for a specific reason; to make an animated movie it takes years to complete, but actual production with animation and rendering and such, is done in about a year or so, if I remember correctly. And no films go into production unless all stages of the pre-production is complete (with a possible few exceptions).
