Question regarding people buying Disney movies on DVD/BD.

Post by DC Fan »

Don´t know in the USA but in Spain the Disney animated movies always sell.

...I´m originally from Puerto Rico and didn´t see them sell this much either there.

With that being said I mean ALL the movies. I´m sure most recent movies like Frozen and Tangled will always sell. Same for movies like Aladdin and Lion King. But older ones from the 80´s and prior, to Walt´s era, to "the forgotten ones" from the late 90s early 2000 also sell.

So my question is: Do you think people get them because they actually care about them/to make a collection, they want to share their experiences with the young ones in the family or just get them so children have something to watch?

Of course the answer would be all of them but which one of these situations to you think happens more?

PS

As for sharing my experiences, in Puerto Rico they would sell whatever Disney movie the stores have. So be Disney recent releases or the ones left behind. They don´t carry all of them. However in Spain they have shelves just dedicated to Disney movies (and Pixar too of course) where you can find everything. Even movies like Chicken Little, Dinosaur and The Wild (I know it´s not a proper Disney movie as in Europe but just to name it). So even the rarest of the Classics or not very well known are available and sell.

In Israel physical media died. The last Blu-ray which was released here is the Diamond Edition of The Lion King and the last DVD was Frozen.

How sad...

Is there a specific reason for that?

I upgraded to BD long ago. So recent releases I´d get in that format while I also upgraded some of my favorite movies on BD while keeping my DVD collection. And I still would get DVDs of movies I just like.

PS

Something came to mind when thinking about this. Most people will stream media and don´t/won´t care for physical media. However, with all big studios having their own streaming services will mean than you´d have to pay to most (if not all) of them if you want to watch a Warner Bros, Disney or Universal movie. So there´s another reason to keep DVD/BD.

That's shocking! That was 2012 for Blu-Ray and 2013 for DVD.

Yep. Unfortunately pirating is strong here.
