It was bad, but even worse it was boring. At least the Aladdin remake was a bit entertaining.

Yeah, honestly the movie's biggest offense was that it was plain boring.

I'm glad Beyonce got a Best Pop Album nom for The Gift. She won't win, but I thought the album was good overall. "Spirit" also got a nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance as well.

Movies don't submit themselves, you know. :P Disney's the one who submitted it in the animation category probably because, unlike the Oscars, the Globes don't have a visual effects category.

I don't think nominees are submitted to the Golden Globe. I think they choose the nominees themselves.

I mean even look at their ad. They really don't want to advertise it as an animated film.

You must be confusing them with the Annie Awards. For the Golden Globes, films need to be submitted for consideration by their distributors.

That's just Disney wanting to have their cake and eat it too. They wanted the extra Golden Globe nomination but at the same time they don't want to emphasize it so it won't hurt the film's chances in the visual effects category at the Oscars.

For some reason it feels wrong for a re-make of the same movie to be nominated in the animation category, but I guess live-action remakes of previous live-action films happen all the time. The fact that an animated film can be re-made in animation again is something you don't see very often. But the reason it's off-putting is that Disney's re-makes of their animated films are always broadcast as supposedly "live-action" as a way to differentiate them from the originals and justify their existence. To then submit it for the animation category is ridiculous.

It turns out Disney submitted it in the Musical/Comedy category but because it was ineligible, HFPA considered it for the animation category.
According to sources with knowledge of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), we’ve learned that the Disney Company actually submitted The Lion King as a live-action film, however the HFPA disqualified it from the live-action categories. According to the organization’s rules, “Animated motion pictures are not eligible for the Best Motion Picture: Drama, Best Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy, or Best Motion Picture: Foreign Language awards.”

It's weird cause there were animated films who were nominated in this category and some even won.

If this movie wins it would be a travesty. At least the other movies in this category acted like they had a creative spark. Then again, it is the Globes.

The fact that they refused to consider it a live-action film makes me laugh. I guess Disney was as shocked that TLK was nominated for best animated film as we were. Thankfully Frozen II or Toy Story 4 would be more likely to win, or they’d be even more embarrassed.

It’s not that often you see attempted category fraud come back to bite the studio in the behind. Then again, Disney has always had two left feet when it comes to handling award season.
