Disney on TV (Australia) - Now Ongoing!
Just thought people might be interested to know that Australia's Channel 7 will be showing Mary Poppins - 40th Anniversary Special on TV this coming Friday, September 3, at 8:30 p.m.
This appears to be the 40th Anniversary remastered edition of the film that will be released on DVD here in Australia on November 10 (and then in the US on December 14). While it will be butchered by ads, they are screening it in widescreen (where available) and it will give some indication as to the restoration job done on the film.

7 seems to have made a return to the Magical World of Disney on Fridays.
Last week they did Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and this week it is the Absent Minded Professor.
Top stuff.

Good lord! A black and white film in prime time? Have they gone mad down at Seven?Loomis wrote: ... this week it is the Absent Minded Professor.
(Perhaps I should apply for a job there now whilst they're still clearly deranged

Well, it could be the colourized version - which was released on DVD here, and the first wave in the US (before people complained, and they changed it).MK Sharp wrote:Good lord! But stranger things have happened...

Yes - the Disney Channel are actually quite poor in terms of classic films, I think.
This week's selection is The Shaggy Dog (1959). It is on at the "family" time of 7:30 on Seven.
(Of course, if you do have Foxtel, the History Channel is showing Star Wars: Empire of Dreams at the same time. Thank baby Jesus for VCRs!)

Yup, I think my first contact with Disney was probably on those 'Wonderful World of...' nights. Of course, that seem to start a wacky obsession that led me to the state that I am in now. The jury is still out on whether that is a good thing.Melly wrote:It's great isn't it?I remember the Wonderful World of Disney on Saturday nights when I was a kid and it's great to know my nieces and nephews are now able to watch them all like I did
Welcome to the board, Melly! Nice to have another Sydneysider lurking about the boards.

Saturday the 2nd October in our favourite new timeslot: Herbie Rides Again!
This is being strangely advertised as Love Bug 2: Herbie Rides Again.

Well, none of these are exactly new filmsDisneyChris wrote:Interesting that Channel 7 is now showing Disney films during prime time. When I lived in Australia 7 years ago all they show are the Seven Nightly News and cheap movies.

But yes, a good show of form there from Channel 7 - Killer of Cult Television (actually, none of them really know how to treat their cult properties).
Still, even though I'm usually out on a Saturday night do Very Exciting Things, it is good to see some regular Disney on regular (i.e not cable) TV.

I don't think this is a part of The Magical World of Disney thing running, but just thought I'd drop in and mention that The Princess Diaries is screening tonight at 8.30pm on Channel Seven, to plug its sequel undoubtedly...which is now in a cinema near you! *cheesy smile*

Also, in addition to Herbie 2 on Saturday night, Seven are showing 102 Dalmatians at 7:30 on Friday.
