Danny DeVito was actually there first choice but he originally declined to audition .
Ron Silver, James Coburn(The Magnificent Seven), Kevin Spacey, Phil Hartman, and Oscar Winner Rod Steiger arrived to the Disney studios to read as Hade.
Animator Nik Ranieri also claims Michael Ironside, Terrence Mann( Beast on Broadway), and Martin Landau(Ed Wood) also auditioned for the role.
Originally they wanted Jack Nicholson as Hades. But he asked for a crazy high salary and money from all the Hades Merchandise.
As you see it was not easy finding a voice for Hades and Philoctetes. I think it's interesting to think of what could have been.
