I have been thinking about how streaming (like on Netflix or whatever) isn't all it's cracked up to be. It may be convenient and cheaper, they say, but between quality issues, connection issues (streaming is only as good as your not-always-reliable Internet connection), and the fact that they tend to have a limited number of stuff to show, which could be removed from the site at a moment's notice (resulting in probably subscribing to other sites just to get everything), it seems like you're at their mercy. Furthermore, on Amazon, you can "buy" the movie, but you don't actually own it. And if the movie goes, it takes your movie with it. As such, they argue that home video (DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.) is far better than streaming because it means you actually own the disc (https://www.vox.com/culture/2016/12/27/ ... ay-netflix). In addition, quality tends to be a whole lot better on home video. Not to mention, they have numerous bonus features. They admit that home video is less cheap than streaming, but you will have unlimited access to the media in question. Here are two other examples of the argument for home video over streaming. The first: https://theconcourse.deadspin.com/you-s ... 1825242474. And the second: http://collider.com/why-you-should-keep ... ical-media.
But there is something that bothers me about home video that these articles don't mention: namely, issues with discs that may be defective (i.e., freezing up). I've had my fair share of this problem, on physical Netflix DVDs (I don't do those anymore), on Redbox, and at the library (which is relatively a little more understandable). There have been many times where I had to return the Netflix physical discs before I was done with them, for example. My question is, why do the people who advocate physical media over streaming fail to mention that physical media may have its fair share of problems as well?
