This may be the newbie in my (I have a complete collection, and I've been collecting for over a year, but I'm still new to this forum)...but I've noticed that a lot of you have duplicate copies of films. Different versions or the same...WHY do you guys buy so many?
And I collect versions from different regions. I have 5 Sleeping Beauties (US, UK 2 disc, UK 1 disc, French 2 disc, Australian 2 disc) and 4 Lion Kings (US Giftset, UK 2 disc, French 3 disc (one is a soundtrack - don't get too excited) and French "Toybox") for example.

My full list is:

Snow White 2 copies (US PE and UK CE with book)
Atlantis 3 copies. (US CE, UK CE - opens like a bottle!, French CE)
Peter Pan 3 copies (US SE, French CE 2 disc, Jap Anthology 3 disc - with Return to Neverland)
Beauty and the Beast 2 copies (US PE, UK CE)
Lion King 4 copies (US PE, UK CE, French DE, French Toybox)
Fantasia 2 copies (US Anthology, French DE 2 disc)
Lion King 1.5 2 copies (US "LK 1.5", UK "LK3")
Sleeping Beauty 5 copies (US PE, UK 1 disc, UK CE 2 disc, French DE, Australian SE)
Treasure Planet 3 copies (US, UK Giftset - with game and book, French Giftset - with Treasure Island and Book)

Some pictures of the non-R1 packages are available here:

BTW is it worth it, is the book any good?
Is it worth $20-$25 or so? I'd say so. I got mine for not much more than that. The book is nice-looking, though not really filled with substance. More than half of it is devoted to retelling the film's story, and most of the rest is concerned with how cool the DVD you already bought is.

But the drawings, book, DVD, and box do look really, really cool together. For that price, and if you really like The Lion King, I'd say it's definitely worthwhile.

At the $35-$40 prices it was upon release, it's a tougher recommendation.
Thanks again, I will definetly consider it now, should I trust those $15 ones?

Yes, I've bought multiple copies of things too, as I have a weakness for nice boxes. I tend to get multiples of the Platinums more, simply because they either have more interesting packaging or the versions are different:

Snow White x 3 (Australian 2-Disc; US PE and the UK Box set w/ book).

Beauty and the Beast. I wound up with 2 copies. The US Platinum and the UK single disc (as it came with Belle's Magical world in a slipcover).

Lion King x 2: US Gift Set; Australian 2-disc with DTS.

Alice in Wonderland x 2: Limited Edtion Australian; US Masterpiece Edition

Sleeping Beauty x 2: UK CE; US SE

Bug's Life x 2: Original and 1st 2-Disc SE

Atlantis (Australian CE, UK CE - opens like a bottle!)

I'll also have a 2nd Lilo and Stitch coming in November.

I'm a bad person.

I don't have all that money to buy all the versions of the same film I want just because of the packaging, but I also have a few double (and triple) dips.

Fantasia x 2: 1-disc edition (Brazil), 3-disc "Fantasia Anthology" (USA)
Peter Pan x 2: 1-disc Limited Issue (Brazil), 2-disc collector's edition (France)
Sleeping Beauty x 3: 1-disc standard edition (Brazil), 2-disc collector's edition (UK), 2-disc special edition (USA)
Tarzan x 2: 1-disc standard edition (Brazil), 2-disc collector's edition (USA)
Fantasia 2000 x 2: 1-disc edition (Brazil), 3-disc "Fantasia Anthology" (USA)
The Emperor's New Groove x 2: 1-disc standard edition and 2-disc collector's edition (both from the US)

Lot's of new douple-dips coming... Mulan, Pocahontas, Lilo & Stitch.... $$$$ :o

I will, I will. I'll buy The Lion King sometime soon and Aladdin when it comes out.
I only regret not buying Beauty & The Beast since it is my favorite Disney flick, I might hunt sometime soon, I'll also keep an eye out if I find any copies of Snow White.

I'd like more people here putting their money where their mouths are!!
Everyone claims to be a fan and want to have an opinion. The question remains: How many movies do you own? Show it !! Prove it !!!

Somebody is currently borrowing my Complete Donald treasures and the new "The Three Musketeers" animation. And I just got Pollyanna and The Parent Trap vault collections in the mail, which is why they're still in the shrinkwrap. But anyway, there it is.

A lot of users but only a few photos. Show your committment and post a photo of your collection. I think only a true collector has standing.

I'm curious to know why some of you collectors have 2-3 copies of the same titles, and a number of unopened duplicate titles when there doesn't appear to be even one of the same title that *is* open.

What good is a DVD if you don't open it up to watch it?

That is, unless you guys are storehousing these titles as an investment to sell later since Disney's so notorious for discontinuing them?
