What I was told was that Marvel has ideas for a couple of different characters to do some kind of solo film in the future. One of these characters was Hawkeye. And Kevin Feige’s comments of “different incarnations of characters” coincides with what I was told about Hawkeye as Clint isn’t the only person to go by that mantle in the comics. I won’t say anymore because, again, it’s not something that is likely to happen for a long time if at all, but it’s definitely something that is on Marvel Studios’ radar.
Back in June, MCU Cosmic reported that a solo Hawkeye project was being considered at Marvel. I ran the report following comments by Kevin Feige that we’d be seeing new incarnations of existing characters, and that definitely fits with what I was told about the Hawkeye project. However back then it wasn’t clear if it was actually going to happen or not, which is why I described it as something that was just being considered.
But today I can say that such a project does still have a pulse, meaning it sounds like it’s in some stage of internal development. What I can’t say for certain is where it’ll end up, as with the advent of the Marvel Studios series for the forthcoming Disney streaming service; this sounds like the sort of story that would fit very well with an eight-episode series. Then again, it could still be a movie.
And yes, I can now at last share what it will supposedly be about as that’s something I’ve sat on since I broke the news about The Eternals. It will involve Clint Barton’s Hawkeye, but it will deal with him training a new younger archer. Comic fans can probably figure out who that new archer is.
I never read Matt Fraction's Hawkeye solo series but I know it was hugely popular and created a new generation of Hawkeye fans. I've despised the MCU depiction of Hawkeye so I'm glad that this is being described as a new incarnation of the character. I just wish that this Hawkeye was married to Mockingbird and not that generic woman from Age of Ultron.

Ditto. The MCU failed Hawkeye. They made him really boring and kind of annoying at the same time. Even the "twist" of his secret family was dull. And because of that they then underutilized him in the movies. I hope the series finally does justice to the character.

I never said she was fantastic. I said I liked her and Vision as a couple. I do feel she's somewhat underdeveloped as a character as well which I'm hoping the TV show will change. I find her much more interesting and well-written than Hawkeye though.

Certainly better than Hawkeye. It's pretty telling that Wanda's entire comic fandom pretty much unanimously loves her movie portrayal, whereas Hawkeye fans have been cribbing since he debuted. Out of the two movies that he starred in, he spent one whole film brainwashed, and the other one just introduced a secret family who nobody could care less about. They really should have killed him off at the end instead of Quicksilver. Frankly, the character is nothing like the comic version anyway. His entire personality is different since the original Hawkeye was brash and obnoxious and constantly picking fights with Captain America while flirting with Scarlet Witch and convinced that she loves him.

Early development. Pitched as a “caper” about Hawkeye coming out of retirement to help aspiring vigilante Kate Bishop after she gets in trouble with the organized crime while using his name. Hawkeye’s family would be heavily featured, and Linda Cardellini is willing to return, but Jeremy Renner is still studying his options. The Hood would be the main antagonist, with Trickshot as his enforcer.
Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is the latest member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to line up his own Disney+ series. Variety has learned from sources that Disney’s upcoming streaming service is officially developing a limited series based on the archery ace Marvel character with Renner attached to star. The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.
Knowing this, I wish they had kept it a feature even more. With Black Widow getting her own movie, Hawkeye becomes the only member of the original Avengers team without a solo film.
Feige was more nervous about his pitch to Jeremy Renner, who plays The Avengers’ Hawkeye. Marvel had a deal for Renner to star in a movie based on the character, but Feige wanted to turn the project into a Disney+ series. Renner turned out to be fine with the change. “He totally got it and said, ‘Let’s do it,’ ” Feige recalls.
Feige sees potential in using the service to build his movies, and vice versa, as characters will weave in and out of both. For example, the studio initially made a deal with Jeremy Renner to play his Avengers character Hawkeye in a solo movie before pivoting the project to a Disney+ series that is due this year.
Hasn't there been a lot of controversy around Jeremy Renner lately? I'm surprised he still has a job at Marvel especially considering he's the least popular of the original Avengers team so he's the most expendable.

Well, the deal was made before the scandal came out. Rumor has it that Disney/Marvel considered recasting him but because the controversy died down quickly in the media they opted against it.
I didn't realize they considered recasting him at one point. I find it interesting that in the era of cancel culture, Disney has managed to gloss over all their major scandals. Lasseter didn't get much media attention and continues to be defended by his cronies over at WDAS and Pixar. Marvel earned enough goodwill to rehire James Gunn and one of the major heads of the company is a huge Trump supporter. And now this with Jeremy Renner.
Strangely, Lucasfilm is the only major Disney studio that has avoided any such scandals or controversy. Maybe because it's the only one headed by a woman, even if WDAS has broken that pattern now (not that Jennifer Lee has been a real improvement as a Lasseter apologist). That's probably also why Star Wars gets attacked the most by the far-right. Even more reason Brie Larson would be a perfect fit for Star Wars because she already stands for everything they hate.
