Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
I'm not convinced that's not whats happening, at least for the rest of the year. Lasseter will probably be in communication with people in the studio long after he leaves. The guy probably still has a lot of people within the studio that respect his creative instincts.

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
That one source had it right that Disney hasn't really learned. It was a very begrudged decision, and they still kissed his a$$ on the way out the door. Ugh. Good riddance to him. And not just for his sexual harassment, since I disliked him before that, although it is one of the most egregious things he's done (along with the wage-fixing scandal and bullying of miscellaneous talent like Brenda Chapman, Glen Keane, etc.). I wonder how things will change--God-willing for the better--with Lee and Docter in charge at both studios. I have more excitement for the future of these two studios than I've had in years. The last time was when TP&TF was being made, but that was almost immediately dashed after its release and I've been mostly cynical about Disney since.
I'm still skeptical until he's officially gone, so... Let's re-convene for that belated Hawaiian shirt bonfire in January??

So he will work as a consultant, but not have an office in any of the studios any more. What exactly will he do for the rest of the year? Talk to the studios through Skype?
Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
I kinda imagine he will still be wondering around giving input as he usually does. If you saw the documentary when cars 2 released it doesnt look like he even has much of a need for an office, he does so much just through his ipad. He can approve shots, draw over things, do facetime chats, etc.

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
Source: https://deadline.com/2018/06/pixar-co-f ... 202406805/As recently as last month, sources floated the possibility of Lasseter returning to Disney in a role that would retain his creative input but limit his managerial responsibilities. But one well-placed source told Deadline there was a gathering sense that the employees didn’t really want Lasseter to return. Some even threatened to quit, according to another person familiar with the matter. Indeed, some in the animation community started a #LoseLasseter campaign on social media and launched a petition on Change.org demanding his ouster.

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
In that case, he will still be wandering around amongst the studio employees for some months when he returns. Maybe as early as Monday. But he will probably be much more humble in the remaining weeks.
Guess this means no Cars 4.
What annoys me is that practically every news site refer to him as "Pixar co-founder". No, he was not a co-founder, he was one of 40 founding employees.
Also interesting to read many of the comments on Variety: https://variety.com/2018/film/news/disn ... e-comments
If attitudes like that are common, no wonder he could grab and touch females for years.

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
I am astounded he is restored in any form...in any capacity...for however short a time span. Were he a woman..she'd be gone already. His moral compass has long eluded him. What worries me most is that in either statement no apologies are made. I do have faith in Jennifer though. She's a creative force to be reckoned with. There's hope for this company yet.

There will likely be a cars 4. It makes too much money for them not to. That could be one of John's last projects for all we know. They seem to need john for something important to them this year. Maybe its to get cars 4 on the right track (no pun intended) before he's officially out for good.Rumpelstiltskin wrote:Guess this means no Cars 4.

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
I think Disney is more to blame for this than anything, for going along with his delusional narcissism and allowing him to elevate himself as the savior and figurehead of animation, even to the point that they were stamping his name onto things he had no part in like The Little Mermaid in its last release (which will hopefully be scrubbed clean off in the next release) to enable his illusion that all success post-Walt came from him.Rumpelstiltskin wrote:What annoys me is that practically every news site refer to him as "Pixar co-founder". One of the things I read was "he touched her legs but did he GROPE them? they couldve just said no" REALLY? You must not know what it is like to be an artist and have your DREAM JOB and to know this awful man can fire you on the spot. Whew, rant over.
Seriously, duck Lasseter. And duck Disney for loving their goddamn money so much for accommodating to him.
Anyway, at the very least, I'm glad there everyone is in unanimous where we all agree on how awful and disgusting Lasseter is.

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
It looks like Disney had to keep Lasseter on board until his contract expired.

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
Cars 3 seriously underperformed at the box-office, so I don't see a Cars 4 happening in the future. And especially with the franchise's biggest champion gone. Disney even seems be moving that outer-space Planes spin-off to their streaming service, after originally announcing a theatrical release.Kyle wrote:There will likely be a cars 4. Speaking of which, I'm curious about DisneyToon's future. It seems to have been neglected, especially with the Tinker Bell movies now done and only the aforementioned Planes spin-off being announced. I've always felt there was more potential for DisneyToon beyond Tinker Bell and Planes. Maybe whatever person they assign to run it will think of ways to reinvigorate it, with titles made specifically for that upcoming streaming service.

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
Didn't know his name was attached to The Little Mermaid. Weird. Also, remains to see if Pixar will change the image on top of their page: https://www.pixar.com/#our-story-main
Wasn't Lasseter the boss of DisneyToon as well? He was already leading both the Disney and Pixar studios, and the theme parks, in addition to being involved in toys. That's a lot for a single person. When he's gone and his former responsibilities are divided between more people, perhaps they can devote more time and attention to the more neglected parts of animation like the DisneyToon studio.

Of course Disney is not going to say they're going to keep paying him till the end of the year because of his contract, even if that's the truth. So they announce they will use him as a consultant, which they probably will.My understanding is that John Lasseter's current employment contract ends in December 2018, so it makes sense to use him as a consultant until that time.
The Walt Disney Company will be paying Mr. Lasseter whether they use him or not.
Certain people seem to only care about the products and couldn't care less about the working conditions where they are made. And it doesn't help that Iger's announcement doesn't include a single apology. Neither does Lasseter's, which almost makes it sound like he had planned to leave Disney at the end of the year anyway. Instead they praise all he has done for the company. Which gives the impression that the only reason why he is leaving is because they are required to fire him because of all the bad publicity it would give them if they didn't.magicalwands wrote:I read a few and had to stop. wait, WHAT?
Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
If memory serves wasn't he responsible for overseeing the 3D conversion? If he really did do that I don't really havbe a problem with him beeing added there. If he really had nothing to do with it though, then yeah, that's kinda lame.
Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
The question is if he is credited in the 2D version as well?
What about Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King?

Re: Lasseter Sexually Assaulted Women
Source: https://variety.com/2018/film/news/john ... 202841999/In recent years, employees have begun to chafe under Lasseter’s control. He lives in Sonoma County, where he has a winery, and would split his time between Pixar in Emeryville and Disney in Burbank, giving notes via iPad. “He had the final word on everything,” says one former Pixar employee. “He became an autocrat without being a real jerk. It became a bit much.”
