Rumpelstiltskin wrote:Depending on when and if Lasseter is returning; Toy Story 4 could be the first Pixar movie where Lasseter is not interacting with the writing of the script. Jones and McCormack left because of “creative and, more importantly, philosophical differences”, and we know what happened to Chris Sanders' and Brenda Chapman's movies. If so, I will be exciting to see the results.
I don't know if its true, but I hear she was hired over a year ago, its only being announced now. So there may have been some interaction with lasseter and Stephany.

Not impossible. But now when he is gone, perhaps she tell herself; "finally no one is hovering over me anymore. Now I'm free to rewrite what I was forced to include or exclude, and do it my own way." Maybe not that simple, but who knows what will come out of it.

2019's going to be a weighty year with this and Frozen 2. Both films have a lot riding on them, as far as the possibility of damage being inflicted on their respective franchises. TS4 is going to have to do wonders not to be harpooned if the reaction to its announcement was any indication. A lot of people don't want them to ruin the perfect trilogy and the perfect ending TS3 served the series. Don't get me wrong, I expect it to do well financially. That's a given here. I'm talking about the response of fans/critics.

Stanton is the new Lasseter.
Other experienced creative hands are helping to lead upcoming movies in Mr. Lasseter’s absence. Andrew Stanton, director of “WALL-E” and “Finding Dory,” is filling that role on “Toy Story 4,” whose director, Josh Cooley, hasn’t previously made a feature.

Off topic, but I wonder if Andrew Stanton is related to the paleontologist Neil Shubin.

Stanton seems like a humble guy. And not just because of his live action bomb. I remember seeing a candid video of a bunch of of the the head guys at pixar on a boat where he talks about how he hates that he' expected to act like they know what they are doing, when half they time they're running around with their heads chopped off. Not sure how to find it again or I'd post it for you guys.

"Humble" isn't exactly a word I've ever associated with Stanton, but opinions.

They are now recording the voices for the movie (or maybe they are already finished), meaning the script has to be finished and the animation will start any moment soon, or it hasn't already:

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/film/201 ... -4-script/
Speaking about her time in the San Francisco recording studio, she said: “Most of it is with Tom [Hanks, who voices Woody]. I’ve never done any animation before where you got to work with the other actors. [Normally it’s] just a single voice at a time. But because of the nature of what we’re doing, we’ve been having Tom and me together. That’s fun! That is really fun!”
And assuming Lasseter was telling Annie Potts the truth back in 2010, they were already planning another Toy Story sequel:
Although she voiced Bo Peep in the first two hit movies, Potts wasn’t asked to return for the franchise’s third in 2010. “That hurt my feelings a little bit,” she said. “But John [Lasseter, Pixar’s chief creative officer] explained to me the reason was because they were saving me for 4.”

Bo Peep's return is actually what makes me excited for this movie. Loved her character in the first two movies and was really sad when she wasn't in the third one. I always felt it is kind of terrible she was forced to leave her friends, so I'm excited to see them reunite. I hope the original plot of the love story between her and Woody is still the main focus in the script.

That's really curious! It must have sounded like a joke back then, but maybe she really knew something.

According to Lee Unkrich they wanted to put her in near the end of production but ran out of time. They had the original model (which we see in the homevideo) but it needed be updated and re rigged to animate her or do close ups to use her as an animated character.

I always assumed she was just written out for story reasons. She couldn't exactly be a part of the daycare and incinerator scenes without being smashed to bits. I love Annie Potts, so I'm glad she's back and in the spotlight for this one.

Maybe Potts can give some further details about the conversion where a fourth movies is mentioned in a future interview or at Comic-Con or something. (It would also be nice if Rashida Jones and Will McCormack could give some examples about what they meant when they said "We parted ways because of creative and, more importantly, philosophical differences", but I wouldn't hold my breath.)

Not including Bo Peep in Toy Story 3 seems logical, but if she really was intended to have a minor role and was excluded because they ran out of time, it would be one of those accidents that give unexpected birth to something nobody had predicted when it happened.

And yes, the way I understand it, she will play a main role in the movie.

Sorry for my last comment, I misunderstood Rumpelstiltskin's post. I didn't click on the link, I just read Annie Potts' quote and thought it was from an old interview.

Yeah, it could be interpreted that way. Anyway, Stephany Folsom seems like a very fast writer. Rashida Jones and Will McCormack left in November 2017, and she was announced as a new writer in late January 2018, starting practically from scratch, and now they are already doing the voice recordings. Which makes it more likely that she has already been hired for a while, even if it was just recently announced, as mentioned some posts above here.

How is it that people keep clammering for a 4th outing when the 3rd was so obviously lesser than its predecessors . Toy story 1 learned us the buddy buddy concept and that friendship among toys is sacred...2 learned us that neglected toys have feelings too and that you should never discard something so easily...3 shamelessly copied from the first 2 in every possible way. Despite its accolades and box office results...Toy Story 3 is in every possible way a lesser effort. I hope 4 will see a new storyline instead of a retreat. Having Bo Peep be Woodys love interest is flimsy at best

^^ Pretty much. TS3 only works because of (emotional build-up of) TS1 and TS2, and even then, only the last 20 minutes or so is where the heart of the movie is and when the movie truly shines. The rest is rather mediocre compared to those 20 minutes, and especially compared to the first two films.

I'm looking forward to TS4 only because of Annie Potts' Bo Peep to be honest. I just hope her story isn't a retread/variant of Jessie's from TS2 ("You guys left me alone, so now I'm not sure I can trust you/be family again" of sorts).
