I hope they finish the project too. But to be honest, I would rather someone at Disney saw this and they released a proper restoration of the film. I wouldn't want an un-tampered Cinderella to only be something that exists in the bootleg market...

It's been thrown around a few times here that some Disney historians are aware of how awful the Cinderella restoration was. That's led to the hope that maybe with the Signature Line, Disney will finally fix the Cinderella restoration.

Oh, how wonderful! Thank you Marce82! But I don't quite understand. Someone is restoring and color correcting a 35mm print of the film on their own, and then they will release it to the public for free on MySpleen? How would someone like me get it? I'd like to buy a copy! But actually, I would really like Disney to just restore the film properly with the right colors and without losing detail!

Don Hahn knows the film is not restored correctly. I heard rumors that Disney as a whole knows it, but Don Hahn does for sure by a member here who spoke to him on Facebook. Disney, please do this film right with the Signature line! That can be one of the selling points!

Boy, I really need to re-do this thread with the pictures uploaded to my new image account. All the images are missing now because of darn Photobucket! Oh, but when will I have the time?! Someday...hopefully sooner than later!

If the project is completed, then it'll be released for free. There's an online website for these projects, but you usually have to be a member of the community to get access to them. There's been quite a few for Disney films, including Beauty and the Beast.

That link compiles the Disney restorations and which ones are well-done and which ones were butchered. Cinderella and BATB, of course, belong in the latter category.

I hope the film gets the restoration it deserves someday. I don't plan to buy the film again until it does.

Let's all agree that if a Signature Edition is announced, we URGE Disney to make a better restoration this time 'round.

Actually a Signature Edition has already been confirmed. The main webpage has been updated to feature the entire Signature lineup, including Cinderella. So I'd argue that it's better to start making noise now then when the film is officially given a release date, because it'll be too late to act then.

Also interesting that Sleeping Beauty is missing. I'm guessing that Disney doesn't want to give it a third Blu-Ray release. This way, all the prestigious Disney classics only get two Blu-Ray releases, the Diamond and Signature editions. The only exceptions are Pinocchio, with Platinum and Signature Blu-Rays, and Sleeping Beauty with Platinum and Diamond Blu-Rays.

I think there's a good chance that Cinderella will be the newest addition to the Signature Collection, this fall. I really hope that they will loose the Multi-Screen edition and Movies Anywhere banners, because they're God-awful, and they ruin the cover artwork IMO.

I watched the Diamond Edition a few days ago, and I couldn't help but notice how the line-work was ruined in so many scenes, but most notably during the short sequence when she lost her slipper and tries to get it back. It's like the bottom part of her dress was the same as her arms, and you couldn't distinguish them anymore. It's such a shame, because it's a beautiful classic film, and it deserves a better treatment.

Yes, apparently the poster of the video is claiming to be working on this for Disney but he's really part of the independent fan-project that was posted a page before this.

People on Blu-Ray.com are contacting Disney through contactus@disneystudiohelp.com and/or 800-723-4763 to let them know about the problem with Cinderella's restoration. I'm not sure how much headway will be made but The Little Mermaid's disc replacement came about because of fan outcry.

I wrote them an email myself. I told them about the restoration problems, and I provided some images as well. And I also told them about the Multi-Screen edition and Movies Anywhere banners on the cover....they ruin the artwork, IMO.

I should write Disney an email and also try to provide some pictures, mainly of the missing fairy dust in Cinderella's transformation and the missing lines and wrong colors when she loses her slipper. I feel those are the best examples of the details disappearing and wrong colors. I just hope they don't only fix like those two errors and leave the rest still messed up.

But I also wrote about the missing fairy dust in the transformation sequence.

Good job! Great example image. When I have more time to myself I'll do something similar.

I’m just curious, did they use different techniques when they restored Cinderella? It’s just that, the other animated classics’ restorations didn’t have these issues (except The Sword in the Stone and Mickey’s Christmas Carol). How can you remove line-art from the animation?

I have a question. In the trailer for Cinderella's Platinum Edition, towards the end, there is the finale music, but it seems to be re-recorded, because the orchestrations sounds different than the one in the movie. Here is a link for the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_sXaYYszRc

Does anyone know if the music is featured on any particular album, or if I can find it online?

It's from the 1995 The Music of Cinderella CD. It's long out of print, but the instrumental tracks were included as bonus tracks on the second disc of the Cinderella: Legacy Collection CD soundtrack.

I just sent an email to Disney at that disneystudiohelp address with three pictures of comparisons (the fairy godmother and Cinderella on bench, the transformation, Cinderella on the stairs) and hope it helps!
