Lovely find ! Interesting to hear that it was a positive experience for the roll being past on to her, rather than for Belle which seemed to be a painful time for Paige O'Hara.
When they say four people who have played the part, I assume they aren't including singing voices ?

Yeah... I guess the official list would be:
Adriana Caselotti (1937-1997)
Mary Kay Bergman (1989-1999)
Carolyn Gardner (2000-2010)
Katie Von Till (2011-present)
Melissa Disney only did the singing voice, but only on CDs...

Re: Disney Princess Voices
The gift receded when Disney finally retired her speaking voice in favor of a Belle voice-alike six months ago. "They did a one-fell swoop of all the older princesses and decided to replace all of us," she says. "I was very upset," to the point of re-recording some lines to prove she could still cut it.DisneyFan09 wrote:Really? Where's your source?Atlantica wrote:Lovely find ! But she had to admit, "I did have to work really hard and vocalize soprano for hours on end to get it up there."

Its been reported in various places before, and she's spoken about it openly. Though it doesn't hold true about replacing all the older Princesses, as Jodi Benson still maintains her role as Ariel in 2016.

Disney is releasing a new mobile game called "Disney Princess: Charmed Adventures" that features the voice talents of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Jodi Benson as Ariel, and Anika Noni Rose as Tiana.

Re: Disney Princess Voices
Thank you for the heads up ! Just downloaded to see the vocal work. Any idea about Belle ?
Re: Disney Princess Voices

Wow ! Thank you for posting !! I don’t think a Disney have done a video like that before ?
Re: Disney Princess Voices
Disney is confusing with Paige O’Hara. Is she still Belle or not?! She’s going to be the voice of Belle in Wreck It Ralph 2, so why not just keep her? She still sounds like her anyway lol.

Re: Disney Princess Voices
This is very sad.
I really hope she gets the care that she needs. Head's up: The videos are very hard to watch.

Re: Disney Princess Voices
This probably means nothing, but I've been seeing a commercial advertising a new Ariel doll (Rainbow Reveal Ariel) that has a woman singing as Ariel and it's not Jodi Benson... The voice singing is different than the female voice describing the product, which means they hired someone specifically to sing as the character. I mean, maybe there have been princess dolls that have voices that aren't assigned for anything else? But I always thought they tried to be consistent with their products.... If they make a Wrecked Princess and/or Ariel shows on Disney+ only to re-cast Ariel, that will be SOOO frustrating...

I have not seen that commercial, but a few months ago I stumbled upon this toy/audio device and they used a different voice for Ariel, too. You can listen to an audio sample here: https://us.tonies.com/products/the-little-mermaid
I had hoped it was just a blip because I’ve heard that they’ve used soundalikes for Ariel before, but now I’m worried. :/

Do you mean this commercial?

Voice actors rarely do their character toy commercial jingle, Jodi Benson only did it a couple of times in 1992 and 1997 for Mattel and Tyco, but never again. (But she was actually the only Disney Princess to do a commerical jingle)
All the Hasbro Ariel commercials have different singers:

2018 - Swimming Adventures Ariel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7xeuT52r6c

Good to know! I had a feeling something like that might be the case. The replacements for Triton and Sebastian have been such a huge drop in quality that I live in dread of the day Jodi Benson and Pat Carroll are no longer here (or able) to voice their characters.

Re: Disney Princess Voices
Has anyone noticed Disney has started to utilize some of their Disney Legend voice actors as media correspondents for official events?
This year, Jodi Benson has been on the red carpet of (I think…) Snow White, Lilo and Stitch, Elio, and Freakier Friday to interview the stars and celebrities walking the red carpet. And yes, usually the people being interviewed do freak out a little bit that Ariel herself is interviewing them.
And I just saw a video on Facebook of Susan Egan interviewing fans on a Disney cruise on their reactions after screening Freakier Friday.
These ladies are pros at everything they do so I’m happy to see Disney utilizing their talents in this way. And can you imagine being one of those fans on the cruise ship having Susan Egan interview you?!?

Re: Disney Princess Voices
I haven't caught onto that, but the idea makes me happy. I love Disney recognizing the contributions of their vocal talent, and I think it speaks to an expectation of Disney fans as a knowledgeable fanbase, a crowd that recognizes that there are PEOPLE who make these movies and would be fluent enough to recognize specific names and faces.
Something I get latched onto, though, has to do with the way Disney tends to favor the vocal talent of the heroines more than their male leads. I don't hear about someone like Scott Weinger doing nearly as much with Disney as Jodi Benson or even Linda Larkin.

Re: Disney Princess Voices
It’s funny you mention that, because I’ve been thinking about this recently, too. I caught a clip of Robby Benson talking about his audition for BATB. He was on some panel, and his voice was just so velvety and smooth… I could listen to him talk for hours. I know CD Barnes and Scott Weinger also do con appearances, I bet they’d be happy to do more work for Disney, too. I wonder if the difference is because the actresses have an established brand behind them, in the form of the Disney Princess franchise, that gives them more opportunities to work with the company?PatchofBlue wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 6:14 pmSomething I get latched onto, though, has to do with the way Disney tends to favor the vocal talent of the heroines more than their male leads. You’re so right about the fans knowing who these actors are— I started following Jodi Benson on Instagram maybe a year or two ago. She shares pictures of herself meeting people all the time, and it’s so clear wherever she goes she is a rockstar to Disney fans.
