Is there anyone out there like me that wants to become an animator. Every time I watch a Disney Classic I know thats what I want to be. I'm even starting on a independent animation. Although my animation training extends only to "The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation" I feel I could make an entertaining piece.

So the point of this thread. Is there anyone else out there like this?

I'm really interested in animation. I really like to draw disney characters but I fear 2-d animation is comming to and end.

That's what I really wanted to be! But now they're not making 2-D animation anymore...so that sucks

Thats why I want to start an Independent Animation Studio. To prove that 2-D still has a place in this world. I'd have to work very hard to reach that goal though.

Technically Disney is still doing 2D...at DisneyToons Studios in Australia. Definitely not on par with the animation in feature films they use to do at Orlando and Burbank - but you can tell by their recent efforts DisneyToons is striving to reach that status.

Disney will never treat them with the respect they deserve. To them right now they see 2-D as something the audience finds uniteresting.

Guys 2-D will never go away, I tend to think it's taking a long but well-deserved vacation. Besides the geniuses at Pixar still start off with pencil and paper.

I'd like to work for Disney in some way, shape, or form, but since I'm not very skilled artistically, I doubt I'd ever become an animator.

Everyone has to start somewhere. The 9 old men didn't go straight into Disney feature animation, they started out learning their craft on the shorts.

It's unrealistic to expect to go to WDFA straight away, so ToonDisney, still doing 2-D animation seems a worthwhile target to aim for before moving "onwards".

Well, it seems to be pencil and paper 2-D animation may be coming to an end, but 2-D animation in general is not. I would recommend you learn Flash and produce some Flash based webtoons. I would think building up a selection which can be used as a portfolio would be the best way to impress some potential employers.

And if you manage to get to ToonDisney, or whatever, who's to say if WDFA won't be doing 2-D again by that time in the future.

Don't just moan about Disney no longer doing 2-D.

I want to be an animator someday too and I'll learn 2d animation even if Disney stoppes making it. Illusion of life is great. I would recommend "Animator's survival kit" by Richard Williams, wich is a very informative and funny book.

Of course no one goes straight to Disney (Dont believe in Glenn Keane fairytales lol) But if you'll look around you'll find there's lots more than Disney. Good luck!

Well good luck achieving your goal . I to would love to work for Disney although I am not really sure what I want to do but I know it would be a great job.
