Don't know if it has been mentioned already, but if Disney should end up buying Fox, then the major animation studios would look like this:

1. Disney:

Disney Animation
Pixar
Blue Sky Studios

2. Universal:

Illumination Entertainment
DreamWorks Animation

3. Sony:

Sony Pictures Animation

I think this would be a decent option.
Some people close to the deal talks said Twentieth Century Fox could become a production label within the Walt Disney Studios, akin to Pixar and Marvel.

While the would be decent, do we really think that's what Disney might do?

I think that's what makes most sense looking at Disney's pas acquisitions. What they're looking for is content.

A content war is breaking out as we move into a non-linear media consumption landscape. Netflix, Apple and Amazon are pouring billions into content production. The amount of original films and series hitting their platforms over the next few years is going to be unprecedented.

But with the libraries of brands such as Disney, PIXAR, Lucasfilm, Marvel and 20th Century FOX? ... the war is pretty much over. There is no competing with a platform in possession of the most in-demand content in entertainment. Disney knows this. This is the only way to survive the digitisation of media consumption. Universal and Viacom are dinosaurs that will eventually be bought by Netflix, Amazon or Apple.

Sure the Ice Age franchise has been milked to death but nearly any property is going to feel that tired that many movies into it (cough cough Toy Story 4 cough cough).
Blue Sky would be a more of a use for another company.

But would Disney let Blue Sky go to a competition? Would Universal buy it to become an even bigger force in the animation market? Blue Sky would certainly be an attractive option for their streaming service. Having the Ice Age movies, the Rio movies, The Peanuts Movie, Ferdinand and Horton Hears a Who, plus whatever their future productions end up being, would add more incentive for families to chip in for it.

I also think Disney will appeal to classic movie fans who still watch Turner Classic Movies and use FilmStruck with the extensive Fox library. This is a studio that owns such renowned classics as The Sound of Music, All About Eve, Gentleman's Agreement, Patton, M*A*S*H and plenty of others that would take me forever to list.

The Fantastic Four may not revert to Disney as Fox only has distribution rights, not production rights to the property.
Now, however, we’re hearing that the latter property may not be included in the deal. Yes, that’s right. Even if they buy their rival studio, the House of Mouse may still not get the rights to Marvel’s First Family. That’s because, from what we understand, the production rights to the Fantastic Four lie with Constantin Films, and even though they’ve partnered up with Fox in the past to produce cinematic outings for the heroes, the studio doesn’t actually own the property. Instead, they only license the characters from Constantin. Admittedly, the exact specifics of how this all works are a bit complicated, but the point is that Marvel getting their hands on Reed Richards and co. isn’t a sure thing. That being said, the distribution rights to the Fantastic Four are held by Fox, which means that even if Constantin wasn’t willing to give the production rights to Marvel, the studio could still probably force them into working out some kind of deal.

So now we can expect even fewer movies from Hollywood?

"Fox under Disney would likely make fewer movies, further reducing the number of releases from traditional Hollywood studios at a time when Netflix and Amazon are aggressively expanding their film output, primarily for their streaming platforms, these people said. The six major studios released 139 films last year compared with 189 in 2007, according to the Motion Picture Association of America."

https://www.wsj.com/articles/disney-dea ... 1?mod=e2fb

The article said something more about how this would affect the movie industry, but it seems like it has been hidden behind a paywall since then.

As for the rights to Marvel characters, the Fantastic Four is still out of reach (assuming the deal between Disney and Fox, the X-Men universe will soon belong to them), Sony has Spider-Man and Universal has the distribution rights to Hulk. Ghost Rider and Man-Thing has returned to Marvel as far as I know. But has anything been 100% confirmed about Namor? Yes, the rumors has it he is back to Marvel too, but I have still not read any statements that says "we can confirm that 100% of the production and distribution rights to Namor now belongs to Marvel/Disney".

But, what will Disney do with Fox's animated movies? Are they just going to distribute them or???

I dont think it will happen if the Murdochs end up being in control of the whole thing, my fear is like what I wrote in my previous post, they will make the Disney brand a production label since once you remove Marvel and Star Wars(which can stand on their own) from Disney all you have is Muppet, Pixar and the classic Disney films and modern ones and most of the classic ones will just end up streaming service fodder. But I dont know much about Fox and how many lucrative properties they own, other than Blue Sky, the tv stuff and some of the genre franchises like Aliens.

I hope that the Fox stuff will just be its own division with its own executives and personal in control as a separate entity and identity and Disney will do its own thing. Only Star Wars and X-Men will move to the SW and MCU franchises. Kinda sucks about F4 though, hopefully they can get that too.

You know you're not the first person who thought of that, someone else had that same thought too. ;)

Which incidentally reminds me of the time MAD TV did a parody mashup of The Princess Diaries and Alien Vs Predator (the former incidentally also had Paul Vogt who was a MAD TV cast member at the time).

The price is way too high. Disney's overpaying for Fox's assets.
