I think that's accurate. I remember reading the book and Eustace was a real jerk to her most of the book. Even Aslan was harsher to her than he usually seems to be with most characters (only thing worse was slashing that one character on the back in H&HB, but that was because of their actions caused another person to be whipped, from what I remember). I filed it away as C.S. Lewis’ own gender issues considering how Susan is left out of Heaven at the end of the series because she found lipstick.

I asked someone about Susan finding lipstick and they told me it is a metaphor for her choosing the material earth instead of God and his kingdom which was known through more than just the lipstick reference. Apparently she stopped believing in her Narnia adventures, or in other words her time with God, too.

I also remember Aslan being harsher in this book, but I don't know if it was only to her or also to Eustace. Regarding Eustace being a jerk to her, I don't remember that, but I think I need to read the book again before the movie is released because I've forgotten a lot of things.

“We’re starting the new series of Narnia books, The Silver Chair,” Gordon said. “We have a wonderful director, Joe Johnston, very, very talented man. And I think that the last movie’s been about ten years ago, and so I think we have an opportunity to reinvent it with wonderful actors and an interesting setting. The world of visual effects has been much more sophisticated then it’s been in a long time, and we think the next series of movies are going to be great.”

Q: Could you tell me a little bit about Narnia: The Silver Chair?

JJ: It’s the fourth film in the series. It’s a totally new, different studio. It’s Sony and Mark Gordon Company. We are planning to shoot it in New Zealand next winter, so we’d probably start prep maybe in July and then shoot in the South Island of New Zealand.

It’s a little bit darker than the other Narnia films. I think The Silver Chair was the darkest of the books. It’s classic literature, really. I think the work of C.S. Lewis is amazing — even though they were written for children, it’s classic literature, and I just thought that this would be fun. I love New Zealand, too.

Q: Is it going to be visually different because it’s a new studio or are you going to try to keep the look of the previous films?

JJ: No, I don’t want it to look like the other films. I want an audience to look at The Silver Chair and think, “This is a whole new vision of The Chronicles of Narnia.” In fact, I don’t even want to reference the other films. It’s like it’s starting a whole new thing.

I have to be honest that I usually don't pay attention to directors, but I went to his Wikipedia page and he is a good choice to be doing a family film like this. I guess it being his last film means he's going to put maximum effort in it? Maybe, hopefully?
