MICKEY'S ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS : GOLD EDITION

Post by STASHONE »

I remember somebody from this message board, informing me a while back that this title was not officially out of print as I was told that it resurfaces in retail stores each year around the holiday time... I'd appreciate it if somebody could please verify whether this information is in fact accurate as I am otherwise going to send payment via Paypal for this DVD purchased through Ebay. The cost of this purchase through Ebay would be subsequently more expensive than the DVD would otherwise cost in retail and this is also not a title in which I am placing on high priority, however if it is out of print and soon to be unavailable, than it is a purchase I will soon make. Can somebody please offer insight based on whatever knowledge you might have regarding this?

Thanks a lot.

I don't know if it comes back in Print seasonally or not. Too be honest being as it was first released as a Limted Issue, then a Gold Collection there's not really been enough season's to make a firm prediction either way.

But for now I would hold off. I would guess it is likely to be re-released when "Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas" is released for the holiday season 2004.

Anyway, it's hardly a title in great demand. If you shop around you may see it cheaper in the future.

(Great Pete scenes in Mickey's tale though! :))

Thanks but it's not that it's ridiculously expensive or anything, it's more the fact that I just don't really care THAT much about spending money on it right now. There are other cartoon dvd's that I'd much rather put the extra cash towards (still havent gotten GI Joe mini-series, Private Snafu, etc...). I just figure that if this dvd is actually out of print and since it doesnt seem to be much of a concern to anyone else, that Disney might not really make an effort to ever redistribute or release it and I'll eventually lose out on the oppurtunity to purchase this. If I will come accross it again around the holiday time for $20 however, than it is no longer a concern.

I don't know is the simple answer. :?

Like I say I expect it to be re-released when the sequel is available, and maybe Disney will hold it back this year to increase demand? But even then I could be wrong and Disney are planning to do the opposite.

If it's not much more money then probably go for it. As long as you can accept it may be available cheaper in a few months. It's just a gamble I guess.

Yeah well its only about $23 US (aaprox. 30 Can) which isnt too exagerated although I cant say I've ever paid $30 for a regular single disc dvd without any extras or features but since this title cant be purchased retail, I might as well do it. Thanks for the help... kinda.

Well, if it's any help, I think it's worth owning. The Goofy segment is good, and has a lot of heart. Also it's fun seeing Max as a younger child again. I like the Mickey segment and it's the best Pete appearance since Mickey's Christmas Carol (Yes, I think he's better in this than The Prince and the Pauper).

However, I don't think much to the Donald segment.

Oh, is this the GoofTroop Christmas special? I saw that many years ago and really liked it... I wouldn't mind the goof troop series on dvd...

No surprisingly "Once Upon A Christmas" was a direct to video release of all new Christmas-themed shorts, featuring the classic cast of characters, which I actually enjoyed. I can't say it was exceptional but the animation was nicely done as were the individual cartoons. I normally dismiss these sort of releases, I especially despise the modern renditions of the classic characters of which Disney has recently been portraying but this managed to work for some reason.

Too bad you didnt post that Luke mentioned it 2 minutes earlier though or I probably would have held off on making the purchase but my final bid already posted, oh well...

I agree that its definitely worth owning, I just dont undertsand why Disney feels the need to complicate such releases by pulling them from the shelves for no apparent reason. For a title of this stature, I dont even see how demand or profit could be a factor. I would have much preferred to just drive downtown and swipe my card for this one. Could have waited till the Rocky & Bullwinkle, Lion King, Sleeping Beauty and Dr Seuss dvds were released also to save some funds for my upcoming and seemingly unavoidable Fall debt. :)

I enjoyed Once Upon a Christmas quite a bit. All three shorts are very good, and together it makes for nice holiday viewing - something I can never get enough of. (Love Christmas!)

I think 2099net is right in speculating that this could return next year when "Twice Upon a Christmas" comes out. Which I look forward to.

Anyhow, "Mickey's Christmas Carol" is on the Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse DVD, not this.

$23 isn't too bad - and at least you're getting the Gold Collection, which has the SheDaisy music video! I have the initial release - no SheDAISY music video! :D

I like SHeDAISY, and I have their Christmas CD which has that great rendition of Deck the Halls heard over the end credits of "Once Upon a Christmas". Can't wait for Twice Upon a Christmas (though it could use a title change: this would be the first sequel that I wouldn't mind if they just added 2 to the title).
