^^ It's their usual exaggerated style, but I agreed with every point they made. I didn't dislike the movie as much as they appear to have, but it was unremarkable and pointless.

So did Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, that doesn't suddenly make it a great movie. There's nothing impressive about the movie's success, it had Disney's marketing machine and full nostalgia mode working in its favor.

Just to check in again:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/ ... ealice.htm

It's already flown past TJB's domestic gross and will fly past AIW's worldwide gross pretty soon. Very deserving. Somehow I doubt any of the other re-makes will top this, except perhaps The Lion King. I can't guess if TJB2 will do better or worse than the first film.

I would say I mostly agree with what Mooky said so far on this page of the thread. I still found the film to have some beauty and magic and good stuff, but, not all that much.

Thanks for sharing! I still can't understand why they chose autotuning over a trained singing voice in the movie. The music, including the new parts, is so beautiful. The autotuned songs just lack any emotions.

What’s Emma Watson’s idea for a Beauty and the Beast sequel?
http://www.slashfilm.com/sequel-bits-fa ... -powers-4/
The story of Beauty and the Beast is a timeless one, with an unforgettable beginning and end, but could the story continue with Emma Watson as Belle? Sounds unlikely, but while promoting The Circle, Watson told Access Hollywood she “would love to do a sequel.” She does have an idea for what Belle would be doing after Beauty and the Beast, too:

I always thought that Belle would become a teacher and she would run the library in the castle and open it up to the village. This was where I was going.

Because that sounds so riveting. :brick:

Can we just forget the idea of giving Disney's BATB in any form a sequel? The Enchanted Christmas did enough damage.

Even more of a reason not to do a sequel. I can't watch Emma Watson tarnish Belle any further.

They aren't going to make a sequel. But even if they did, no way would it be comparable to what a direct-to-video animation studio crapped out.

That said, I agree with Watson that Belle would probably use her power for the sake of education. God knows her village needed it.

I went and watched the movie a number of weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

Anyway, it doesn't look like the film will make the lofty predictions I was making, but it has done quite well for itself. It's currently at $482 million in North America and should pass the $500 million mark by the end of its run. Worldwide it's currently at $1,144,945,541 ($662,293,926 Foreign) and the new Fast and the Furious movie is just about to pass it in the next week or two, with a ~$42 million difference.

Beauty and the Beast just opened in Japan a few weeks ago and had an opening closer to Alice and Wonderland than a lot the other remakes/reimaginings. It opened in Japan with $9.7 million ($12,627,544 to the end of the week). The second weekend it earned $10 million for the weekend and $20 million for the full week. As of 30 April it has earned $33,090,260 according to http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... st2017.htm. A finish total of over $100 million should be feasible, but if it performs like Frozen ($249M) it could very well make over $200 million (maybe even $300 million isn't out of the realm of possibility). It's performing well and neither the Fate of the Furious or a new Detective Conan movie could knock it from its #1 position these last few weeks.

With the Japanese numbers, Beauty and the Beast should finish with realistically $1.3 million, but I think the Japanese run will do well, so $1.27 to $1.5 million is the range I'd predict. I wonder how the other billion dollar earners for the year will compare to it.

You meant billion, right? I hope it ends up going around 1.5, too, although it would've been nice if it had got even closer to 2 billion.

I'm glad you enjoyed the film, too. :)

Yes, billion, not million. Funny thing is I read my post twice to make sure that it sound right, but somehow missed that. Silly me! With the amount that the teaser trailer and first full trailer were viewed I thought it would be closer to the $2 billion mark. If China ($85M), France ($22M), Germany ($33M) and South Korea ($36M) had done the numbers I was expecting, it would have been closer $2 billion.

I'm also glad you enjoyed the film too. My Mum enjoyed it too and thought it was perfectly put together, said it was the best out of all the Disney remakes (I'm pretty sure that's what she said).

Beauty and the Beast wins Movie of the Year at 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards
http://ew.com/movies/2017/05/07/beauty- ... ards-2017/
The Bill Condon-directed adaptation of Disney’s beloved 1991 animated classic of the same name has taken the awards show’s top film honor, earning Movie of the Year over the likes of The Edge of Seventeen, Logan, Get Out, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at Sunday’s ceremony.

Stars Emma Watson (who won Best Actor in a Movie earlier in the evening) and Josh Gad invited Condon to join them on stage as they accepted the award at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

That's cool on the MTV award.

Not sure if anyone is interested, but I'll write this anyway. Last week I mentioned that the Fate of the Furious would pass Beauty and the Beast on worldwide numbers. After the weekend numbers coming in, it looks like the Fate of the Furious is running out of momentum (despite closing the gap on Beauty and the Beast) and will not earn enough to pass it. Last week the gap was only $42 million and at the moment it is $24 million. It would seem that it was inevitable that it would pass it, but the $60 million it earned this past week (for the Fate of the Furious), will probably be cut to a third at the most for next week. China has been doing huge numbers, but once its numbers drop, they drop big.

Interestingly enough, if you take away the Chinese numbers away from both Beauty and the Beast ($85M) and the Fate of the Furious ($373M plus this weeks numbers), Beauty and the Beast has the higher international numbers (~$612M vs ~581M (minus this weeks Chinese numbers) respectively).

It looks like Beauty and the Beast has passed the $60 million mark in Japan too.

Worldwide: $1,186,029,848 (7 May 2017)
