Siren (TV Series)

Post by Sotiris »

Freeform, formerly ABC Family, has greenlit an hour-long drama pilot called "The Deep" which will re-imagine the tale of The Little Mermaid. Production begins in September in Vancouver.
"The Deep" is a one-hour drama that takes us inside Bristol Cove, a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean.

"The Deep is a very different show than one would expect when they hear the word 'mermaid' - the mermaid tale has been reinvented in this pilot," said Karey Burke, Freeform's executive vice president of programming and development. "The writing is thrilling, stories complex and scary, and we are excited to explore the themes of obsession and violence through these amazing creatures."

Eric Wald and Dean White will write and executive produce the pilot. Scott Stewart ("Dominion") will direct. Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb will also serve as executive producers. Emily Whitesell ("Finding Carter") will serve as showrunner.

Production began this week in Vancouver on Freeform's latest drama pilot "The Deep" (working title). The Deep stars Alex Roe (“The 5th Wave”) as Ben, a bright marine biologist who finds himself drawn to a mysterious new girl in town, Ryn, played by Eline Powell (“Game of Thrones”), who is a strange young woman with a deep dark secret. Fola Evans-Akingbola (“An American Exorcism”) stars as Maddie, also a marine biologist who works with Ben and is highly suspicious of Ryn. Ian Verdun (“Life’s a Drag”) stars as Xander, a deep sea fisherman on a quest to uncover the truth; and Rena Owen (“Star Wars” Episodes II and III) as Helen, the town eccentric who seems to know more about the mermaids than she lets on.

Based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White, Wald wrote the pilot teleplay and both he and White serve as executive producers. Scott Stewart (“Dominion”) is directing. Emily Whitesell (“Finding Carter”) is on board as showrunner and executive producer. Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb are also attached as executive producers.

This isn't based on Little Mermaid, so you should change the forum title

I don't know anything about the people behind this. I might watch the premiere to see what it's like. I already saw an episode of Dead of Summer, and it was....okay.

Not really based on the Little Mermaid but I'll check it out anyway along with that new Sleeping Beauty show.

That's odd that they already have a trailer for a show that isn't set out to come for more than a year. I'm not very impressed by it although I didn't care much for the show's initial premise when it was announced a while back. Strange that the Sleeping Beauty spin-off doesn't have a trailer yet.
