Stitch & Ai

Post by Sotiris »

Stitch & Ai is a Chinese animated spin-off of Lilo & Stitch. It debuted on CCTV on March 27, 2017. The show is set in the Huangshan Mountains of China and features a girl named Ai. The first season consists of 13 episodes. Unlike the anime version, this one was originally animated in English and then dubbed into Mandarin. You can watch the trailer, here (in English).

Another Lilo and Stitch series without Lilo, and a new girl to replace her.

Isn't this the third girl that Stitch has had a show with now? First Lilo and then the Japanese girl in the anime. I don't remember if Jumbaa and Pleakley were in that version.

It's too bad that Lilo has been cast aside for new girls in these last two animated series. However, this looks decent enough. The animation looks much better than other recent Disney series like Tangled or DuckTales... I'm not a fan of how flat, purposely 2-dimensional, and stylized those two new series look. Tangled looks better than DuckTales, but I think both are cheap and simple looking compared to Disney shows of the past. This new Stitch series — while still providing a beautiful hand-drawn animated appearance — also has more of the fluidity and depth expected of Disney.

I wonder if those dragons are meant to be real dragons... or if they're aliens. Stitch is meant to be a sci-fi set in the Aloha State, not a fantasy set in the Middle Kingdom. :stitch:

I hope that there's continuity between all these series. I think it's wonderful that finally in season 3, they connected the Stitch! anime to the original films/series by having Lilo and her daughter Ani return, and Pleakley tells Yuna about Stitch's past.

I hope that something similar happens here. Maybe Lilo, Ani, Yuna, Ai will all meet in some episode! That reunion would probably be overkill.

Who's the voice of Stitch now? He sounds off.

So the Japanese spinoff wasn't enough? :P

The girl looks like a Chinese carbon coby of Lilo.

Why do they keep replacing Lilo? I knew of this Lilo hater who is probably overjoyed that "the brat" is being punished, but I'm not. She's one of the more unique Disney characters and it sucks she gets shat over due to marketing.

It always bothered me how Disney still recognizes Stitch but pretty much ignores Lilo. There's even more merchandise for Scrump and Angel than there is for Lilo.

Still, for the most part I'm fine with these spin-off shows removing Lilo from the picture, mainly because they were designed for international audiences. If it was a purely American show, I'd be more ticked at Lilo's removal. I do hope that if there is another Stitch show in the future, no matter what country it's from, that Lilo can be part of the main cast. Moana's popularity seems to have brought upon a resurgence of Polynesian culture and I've seen more love for Lilo since so I don't think it's out of the picture.
