hurricane charley and disney (this is really depressing)

I found two somewhat silly/funny/depressing things on SaveDisney.com today

First off is letters, lots of angry letters from WDW cast members and the whole Hurricane Charley fiasco. Hmm...maybe it's a good thing I didnt do that whole WDW study program yet...

Well I'm normally a SaveDisney fan, but these two items are ridiculous. Yes, Disney World was hit hard, but it wasn't knocked down. I believe it was a class 2 when it hit them.

They conveniently look over what Disney did do on the spur of the moment in an emergency:

*Brought characters to all the Disney resort hotels for kids to interact with
*Televised Disney movies all day and night in each hotel room
*Provided free food for all guests in the lobby
*Dispensed CMs to ensure safety procedures were being followed
*Sent weather reports and updates, as well as safety guides, to each room every half-hour
*Closed down the parks for only the 3rd time (I think) in Disney history
*Provided one-day admission tickets to those who had begun their day in Disney prior to the parks being cancelled

It's not an ideal situation, but I don't know how much else they could have done. What's the big deal with Disney operating the next day? How is that an insult? If they weren't hurt so badly that they can't go on, then why shouldn't they go on? Now I'm not sure what shape the parks were in, but they did open with delays (something that is mistated in the link) and they didn't open all the parks up- Animal Kingdom and I think Typhoon Lagoon remained closed. What about the families who paid to travel down there? Should they be forced to stay in their hotel rooms all day long and lose out on all their hard-earned money just so that other people aren't offended? There's no reason for it! Pure selfishness!

Of course I can't speak for how Disney treated their CMs. If some of those stories are true, they are certainly reprimandable. I don't get the whole "this isn't how it used to be" attitude, though. Hurricanes of this nature don't commonly go through WDW and as I said earlier, closing the parks down and evacuating them is not something they have a lot of experience with.

And as for the paper towels... it may have made more sense to just do a deal with Bounty instead of starting up their line, but this is clearly an attempt to find something to complain about. What's wrong with Disney paper towels? It, too, brings a little touch of Disney to the home. I'd love to have them! Kids use paper towels as much as anyone else, and probably pay more mind to the prints than adults (I know I did). Plenty of comic strip or other popular characters already regularly appear on paper towels. Now, I don't know what the quality of the towels are, but they should indeed be competition-worthy, but the quality doesn't seem to be their beef.

yeah, it's kind of dull to go to Save Disney and find articles where all they do is bad mouth it. There is little in means of inspiring CMs to fight against the management by doing what Walt Disney would do regardless of environment and conditions.

When ya think about it, sure these CMs have to work but they could also help each other cope with the crisis instead of moping around

I'm not sure though really, if I was there I would be pissed about having to come to work as well, and the fact that the Disney budget is not going to do much in terms of fixing the damage to the parks

It's cool to go to SaveDisney to learn about why things are going wrong, but what are Roy and Stan doing to fix things? What can I do to fix things? The answer is nothing really, only certain people can do something once a year and they are stockholders. I dunno squat about stocks to help.

This is only the second time I ever heard of Disney World being closed, the first time was on 9-11

Did you read the thing about the paper towels? It explains exactly why they are unhappy with it. It dilutes the brand. Something Eisner has been doing for years.

Yes, but as I said above, I don't think it dilutes the brand whatsoever. I agree that Eisner has been guilty of this in many instances, but this simply isn't one of them. What's wrong with Mickey on paper towels? I don't see how it's any different than putting Mickey on any other house hold product. It brings Mickey home. I do think (and perhaps it is this way) that it should be an assortment of Disney characters on the paper towels.

I have a cousin who lives in Sanford and he says they had gotten hit with a category 3, the same that hit Disney. Sanford is north of Disney World, so it was a 3 or higher when it hit. He did say, however, that there was no damage. As for the paper towels... ew.

SaveDisney is often too mean-spirited. I mean, including Eisner in a favourite Disney villains poll?

It's one thing to have a personal opinion on a site like this, but SaveDisney is trying to show how they could better run the company. Constantly bad-mouthing the opponent is something that (for once) Eisner is not doing.

Trust me: I'm not saying he isn't, but if SaveDisney is trying to convince people they can run the company better than him, they shouldn't be bad-mouthing him. It's very "un-Disney-like" behaviour. It's also very childish for people their age.

It's like they're running a lemonade stand, and bad-mouthing the one owned by the kid down the street.

Yeah, where is the article? I kind of missed it and would like to know what it said. I did a search at the site and only the msnbc report came up. Did they delete it? Anyhow who did read, can you please summarize of what it was about. I am very curious to know.

Every little thing that goes wrong, they use it against them. This has very little to do with what savedisney stands for and it's a little weak of them imo
