UmbrellaFish wrote:A lot about this film reeks of the unnecessary. Disappointingly, Dan Stevens seems to have been completely hidden under CGI and heavy voice effects. Emma Watson is a name actress, but is no patch on Paige O'Hara, or Susan Egan, for that matter. They chose not to incorporate the Broadway musical's songs, many of which are quite lovely. The costumes knock it out of the park, except for Belle's dress which somehow manages to be more lackluster than Lily James' too blue Cinderella ball gown-- I don't understand why they would go to such pains to design everything so accurate to period, down to the bizarre Mrs. Potts design, and then give Belle a gown even less appropriate than the 1991 original.

Don't get me wrong, me and every other millennial will be watching this movie in theaters, further encouraging Disney to raid through the vault to exploit our cravings for nostalgia. "Cinderella," after all was pretty well done, and the recent "The Jungle Book" is the best adaptation of Kipling's novel, period. Thus, I'll have no one but myself to blame when the first teasers for "The Lion King" have me face palming.
At least with Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, Disney had the excuse that those movies were decades old. The body here is still relatively warm.

Also, this remake is already problematic in that the original was the first animated film to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination, in addition to bolstering Disney's renaissance. Aside from following up with Disney's more recent string of live-action remakes, what exactly is this supposed to prove?

As for that doll, that unfortunately is another problem with making live-action remakes of animated characters. Those who grew up in the 1990's might recall the Happy Meal toys that came out with the live-action Flintstones movie.

? Well, that's an easy one. $$$. That is the only reason any of them exist. I thought this was established 3 or 4 re-makes ago.

I just saw the new teaser on the Golden Globes. It still looks simultaneously eye-popping and soulless.

This new poster is an eyesore. Way too many actors on it-- and a little inexplicably so. I mean, the actors only filmed a week or so of live action footage, for the majority of the film the characters will be seen in their iconic anthropomorphic object forms. Besides, it's the title "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" that's going to sell this movie, not Stanley Tucci and Audra McDonald, God love 'em.

The Emma Watson doll makes me giggle because it's actually a pretty good likeness, it's just that the expression is a little severe and the hair is badly done.

Not a fan of her voice. Especially when she says "somewhere". Something just sounds off about it.

Agreed. "Somewhere" slides from her head to her chest in a obvious matter and it goes from quiet to loud. Plus, the accent is showing. And she's talking the lyrics as well.

Man... I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed by the latest trailer. Not loving Emma's voice... or her approach. And I'm praying they have a full orchestra to accompany this moment in the film.

As far as the images go... not loving them either. And revealing the look of the enchanted objects as humans... kinda kills the surprise at the end of the movie.

As far as Belle not being all gussied up for the dance... well... I suspect it will me disappointing. I remember Emma Watson when she shows up at the Yule Ball in the 4th Harry Potter movie... it was a "WOW" moment... I would have hoped for something similar here... but it doesn't look like it will be.

Ew, not a fan of her singing at all Image Even the CGI scenery of that scene looks bad.

At least the supporting cast is on point (Emma Thompson, Ian McKellen, Audra McDonald, etc). I feel like they're going to make or break this film, so hopefully they're given a chance to shine over the bland leads. Far more talent among them.

Gosh, I thought the little doll clip that was released sounded processed, but this is even more so ! What are they doing to her voice to make it sound like that ? I know Emma isn't a vocal talent like Paige or Susan, but she must have had an alright voice at least, to have warranted getting the part ? Perhaps have they manipulated her voice for the trailer or something ... thats what I'm hoping. Extremely underwhelming, especially when the trailers / music have been so good so far. I wonder if Disney are panicking a bit as the mass view seems to be a dislike of her voice.

I love the last poster ! But I'm bit startled by Belle wearing what looks like an ear cuff ?!

I love that new TV spot, but I was hoping for a new, longer trailer.  They don't seem to like making longer trailers for Beauty and the Beast.

That’s assuming they aren’t shown as humans at the beginning of the film.

I don’t believe Disney is—or should be—worried about this film at all.

I do think the music accompanying the vocals in that last trailer is not the real score in that moment in the film. I am warming up a little bit to her voice. Though I wish they would drop some other vocals from Gaston for example

I don't mind her voice at all; it's about what I expected. It is a stark contrast to O'Hara, but that's not really surprising considering that for one O'Hara isn't, well, British.

Well... it would be a bit of a disappointment if they did show the servants as humans at the beginning.

Actually, that has always been a mild issue for me w the animated BATB: in the original story, the reader didnt know that the beast was a prince in disguise till the very end. I totally get why Disney changed that in order to enhance the plot... but this made the big reveal of the prince at the end a bit lackluster. But I recall being very intrigued by the look of the servants once they regained their human form...

I'm just worried about this remake... up until a few weeks ago I was sure I would go to the theater to see it... now, not so sure.

She actually is :S It looks like leafs going around her ears....I think that they tried to make this version more modern and appealing to modern day youth.... honestly have to say I kinda like the dress(it took some time to get used), but just like Cinderella's dress, I like that they went a different direction then just copying the animated one. I read somewhere that this dress will also be created by magic so I'm curious about it...

Considering Emma her singing voice...hopefully it will sound different in the movie, cause it sounds very weak and modified in these clips :(

It looks like Ariana Grande and John Legend are going to perform the end credits song for the film. According to the Entertainment Weekly article released some time ago, that end credits song is a version of "Our Song Lives On":
“It ends up being a song called ‘Our Song Lives On,’ and it’s done in a number of forms,” says Menken of the former track. “The first time it’s sung, it’s Belle’s father singing as he’s completing a music box, and basically it’s [about], ‘How does a moment live forever? How do you hang on to precious moments?’ Then, it’s reprised by Belle, and then it’s the song that’s actually over the end credits at the end of the movie. Disney hasn’t announced it yet, but there’s going to be some wonderful singer on the end credits song.
