I’m guessing a few of these songs will be very short (“Shiny,” for instance, I would expect to be something like Kristoff’s 'song' in Frozen) or almost background music. And I don’t mean like Tarzan; what I mean is, I think a couple might work almost like score in the background as characters are talking.

The link you provided doesn't work for me. Here's another link to the lyrics in case someone has the same problem (they are from the end credits version performed by Alessia Cara): http://genius.com/Alessia-cara-how-far-ill-go-lyrics

And if you have a Spotify account you can already listen to the song: https://play.spotify.com/track/5hYTyyh2 ... edium=open

I think that will be the case, too. Well, I think "Shiny" (Tamatoa's song) will be a full song, but some of the others might be background music with chorus, similar to the "Vuelie" track in "Frozen". In the press release that was released earlier this week, it said there would be seven original songs, not counting the two reprises and the two end credit versions. Also, Lin-Manuel Miranda referred to "Where You Are" as the opening number, when it's the third song in the soundtrack. It's also possible the CD tracks are in a different order than they appear in the film, but I guess the following will be normal songs:

- Where You Are – Christopher Jackson, Rachel House, Nicole Scherzinger, Auli’i Cravalho & Louise Bush
- How Far I’ll Go – Auli’i Cravalho
- We Know the Way – Opetaia Foa’i & Lin-Manuel Miranda
- You’re Welcome – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
- Shiny – Jemaine Clement
- I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors) – Rachel House & Auli’i Cravalho
- Know Who You Are – Auli’i Cravalho, Vai Mahina, Olivia Foa’i, Opetaia Foa’i & Matthew Ineleo

And these will be more like background music with chorus:

- Tulou Tagaloa – Olivia Foa’i
- An Innocent Warrior – Vai Mahina, Sulata Foai-Amiatu & Matthew Ineleo
- Logo Te Pate – Olivia Foa’i, Opetaia Foa’i & Talaga Steve Sale

Thanks for the link!

OK, I have to say I didn't like the end credits rendition. It sounds too much like a remix. They made it too R&B/pop-sounding and it doesn't suit the song at all. The orchestration doesn't complement the melody and goes against the song's internal structure. You can tell it used to have a conventional Broadway sound. They added a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles to it making it sound overproduced, even for an R&B song. I'm disappointed but I'm going to wait for Cravalho's version to pass judgement on the song itself.

I considered the song to be generic and underwhelming at it's regular E tune, but it improved when it shifted to a F tune (sorry if I'm explained the term wrongly, hence I'm not certain what the right term for a melodic tone or tune is in English, due to me not being an Native English typer). But it's production was horrible, but it was expected.

Hmmm...

When she said "daughter" in the song I instantly remembered Mulan. and when the Alicia Cara song ended, I instantly remembered Aguilera's Reflection.

The song is fine, it's not good, its not bad, its just fine. Nothing like Let it Go. Especially the last verse of that song.

Anyone think that we'll get a final trailer next week? or have we already gotten the final trailer?

I rarely like the credits versions of these songs. I do like it more than Demi Lovato's "Let it Go," but I detest that version.

It's not amazing though. I like Alessia Cara a lot but she doesn't fit the style of the song and they didn't manage to make it work for her imo.

I have to admit listening to Cara's version made me very excited to hear the in-film version (I won't spoil myself with that one; I'll wait until I'm in the theater). How I feel about it will entirely depend on the vocal the actress gives. I have to admit I've always enjoyed "I Want" songs, even the most banal, as long as the vocals are there.

If you scroll down about 3/4 of the way on this page, you can see how Disneyland is decorating for Moana, and there are some pictures of merchandise they're already selling:

Personally the lyrics remind me of, in essence, "Just Around the Riverbend".

I've warmed up to How Far I'll Go. Curious to hear the movie version. Still sounds more top40 than Broadway, but I'll reserve further judgement.

New still:

And a pair of interviews with screenwriter Jared Bush:

By the way, I noticed that the 9th track on the soundtrack, "Logo Te Pate", has the same title as the Te Vaka song featured in the domestic trailer and other promotional stuff, so I suppose it's the same song and not one created for the film.

This might be worth a read: http://www.oldandsold.com/articles25/ma ... s-23.shtml

Marriage customs generally were strict across the different cultures in the area. For example, either the man or the woman (or both) must be tattooed in many cultures before they are seen fit to be married. Also, marriages are usually arranged based on class, and the daughter of a chief (like Moana) would probably have to wait until someone of high enough rank proposes (or her father would just arrange the marriage for her, likely when she was very young. It depends on culture). Naturally, people did elope in a couple of cultures (at least in the 19th century), but it seems like marriage was a very organized decision. Teenagers likely were forbidden to "date" people their age before marriage in most Polynesian cultures for that reason. Plus, there's also the idea that boys and girls were segregated for much of their time to learn/do different things, so promiscuity between teenagers was usually avoided.
