Lady Cluck wrote:It may seem like an outlandish thought now, but with the way the animation branch nominates by rating its films individually on a scale instead of ranking them can lead to some surprises and smaller films getting nominated over huge box office smashes (like when The Lego Movie was snubbed). With Zootopia, Moana, Kubo and the Two Strings, The Red Turtle, and potentially other domestic or foreign animated films, it could be a tough category this year.
I, too, wouldn't be surprised if one of the Disney heavy-hitters missed out. Their tastes are gravitating more towards the smaller and international fare over the big studio productions. You could make a case for any one of the three not getting nomination come January.

I do agree that this isn't good enough for an Oscar. I really believe it'll be Zootopia vs. Moana.

I think it's more likely Moana is left out before this is. I'm guessing Disney will focus on promoting one film for WDAS and one for Pixar, and they'll choose Zootopia over Moana. Somehow it feels unlikely three from one company would end up on the list. But I could imagine The Red Turtle being snubbed, too, and possibly The Secret Life of Pets being nominated because of how big the numbers for it have been so far.

Finding Dory has become the highest grossing animated release of all-time domestically!
The weekend box office may have been dominated by The Secret Life of Pets and Ghostbusters, but it was Finding Dory which crossed a major milestone, officially becoming the biggest domestic animated film of all time, according to Box Office Mojo. The Pixar sequel has made $445 million to date, beating the $441 million earned by Shrek 2, which held the record for more than twelve years. Of course, this only counts for domestic numbers, as the biggest animated movie of all time worldwide remains Disney’s Frozen.

It's a good year for Disney. This is the third Disney film to cross that mark in 2016. And they have yet to release Moana and Rogue One which are most likely going to be great successes too.

You know, it really feels like it took the film a while to get here. I'm kind of surprised.

Anyway, WalMart has the Blu for only $15 this week. I'm not sure if other places have extra stuff to go with it, but I got this, since this wasn't very high on my to-watch list earlier. The first is pretty far from my favorites, and I'm not a Dory fan at all. But I still need to add it to my collection, and I'm a little curious to see it.
