Disney's Divinity wrote:I’m glad it’s going to be most likely like the original. But I wasn’t a fan of Cinderella (2015), and that was very little like the animated film. Hopefully Belle's dress here won't look as unimpressive as Cinderella's dress did in that.
Ha! If this picture shows what Belle's yellow dress will look like, it is
way less impressive than Cinderella's blue dress, which
was impressive!
You love it? Well, the first picture with Belle in the blue dress, sure, and the Beast's face, yes, but Belle's yellow dress and the Beast's suit you think look that good?! And yes, he looks a little like the French 2014 Beast, but personally, I don't think he looks enough like that for him not to look like what I think is great!
Atlantica wrote:Her everyday attire is just lovely. A homage / copy of the original, but with a bit of a switch up. Love it.
I don't like the CGI pose thing of the dance ... assume its the poster ? Looks like the Cinderella odd - perspective one.
And actually looking at the library picture ... kind of reminds me of Once Upon A Time for some reason ??
Agree on the blue everyday attire, and I love how the Beast looks. I don't understand what you mean by "the Cinderella odd-perspective"? I also get why the library picture reminds of Once Upon a Time. I see it.
Toky wrote:Really like that they went with a different design/look of the costumes than the animated version (like in Cinderella). The only thing I dislike is the beasts' face; It looks really awful CGI; and I kinda expected a mask/make-up.
Yes, the beast kinda does; but if this movie looks anything like the 2014 version; I'm sure it'll look wonderful. Lea Seydouxs' dresses in it were amazing...
To me they are not doing the costumes well. I think the Beast's face and body look great and that hey, CGI didn't always look the best in Cinderella. But yea maybe he should be all prosthetics and make-up. Yea the Beast does kind of look like the French 2014 version but different and better to me.

The Beast looks excellent and Belle's blue gown is gorgeous! Emma is beautiful! But, what a boring yellow dress!!!!
Yes, I quite agree on all that, except I wouldn't call her blue gown gorgeous, just nice.
JeanGreyForever wrote:I love the first shot of Belle in her blue dress. The Beast looks great as well.
But Belle in her ballgown looks horrendous. The dress is so plain and not even gold, but yellow. On top of that, even her hair doesn't look styled. I'm really disappointed actually. While Emma Watson's dress for the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was simple, it still blows this one out of the water.
I agree with almost everything you said! Just not the part about her Harry Potter Yule Ball dress. But yea, it's not gold, it's just yellow, and it's plain...oh, man, so disappointing.

This movie doesn't make sense at all! From the look of the enchanted characters, to now this??!! Seriously?
I think Belle in her blue dress looks good so far.
but the ball gown picture/poster.. OMG that looks so horrible!
Belle looks plain. Not beautiful. Like her name means average cosplayer. Honestly, I've seen Belle cosplays that look better and more expensive. The dress is horrendous and screams Cinderella. Like, it looks exactly like the dress that was on the DisneyStore LA Cinderella dolls! It's so bad. Unbelievably bad... Just look at this article talking about dresses that look like Belle's:
http://www.davonnajuroe.com/beauty-and-the-beast-dress/
Notice that the historic dresses look like people actually put effort into making them! This looks like Mrs. Potts and Madame La Bouch or whatever that wardrobe's name is just decided to wrap a bed sheet on her with the curtain's soft layer! Just so bad!
And the beast........... I honestly have no words. Just... wow....
Based on my reaction to the teaser, the reveal of the enchanted characters' looks, and now this...I honestly have 0 hopes for this movie. Just like that, I am instantly disappointed in it.
What have you done Disney??!
In a lot of agreement here. Belle looks so plain when she is supposed to be the Beauty! But I wouldn't say her dress screams Cinderella. Cinderella's dress, in doll form and especially movie form, was waaaaay better than it and did not look much like this live-action Belle one and had so much more detail. I expected her dress to be more 1700's accurate like the ones in that link you provided...and more beautiful like those, too. This has, like you, lowered my interest in this film...a lot.
Disney's Divinity wrote:Belle in the bookshop looks great. The dancing shot looks okay... I hope the dress'll look a bit better than that, but I don't hate it or anything. The Beast looks okay--I mean, is he real or just a concept drawing? Doesn't really look like Dan Stevens in the face.
Oh yea,
now you're faced with a dress way inferior to Cinderella's and you just say you don't hate it.
You know, one of my reasons for wanting to see this was the designs, and what they would do for what I think is the best Disney dress ever designed, and I must say these costumes are poor. The live-action Cinderella's costumes were far superior. Cinderella's blue ball dress had the detail in the ruffled, butterflied, cloud-like neckline and the many, many pleats in the very big skirt, and it was sparkly. And her ball hair was much better and had much more done to it. But I must say, Cinderella's dress and hair
should be the best when they were so important to the story.
And I thought, hey, maybe the point of how the designs look is the film's message: it's not what things look like but what's on the inside that counts! Yet, Belle is supposed to be a beauty, and even aside from that,
should the entire film look as magnificently beautiful as possible? YES!!! And does it? NO!!!
I also thought the gold dress would be more historically correct, too. Belle would never have such short sleeves! Just like how a Deviantart artist named Shoomlah made a sort of more historically accurate Belle gold dress,
click here to see. Then I asked her if there were such short sleeves in the 1700's, when the film takes place, and she said there weren't, so she made
this dress, click here. I don't think the more historically correct one is as gorgeous as the old one she did, so I'd rather the old skirt and bodice with the new sleeves. But really, I'd rather some new dress for this live-action Belle was made by Disney that looked better like that first Belle Shoomlah design.
