UK releases

Post by disneyunlimited »

Yeah, I started off collecting Disney DVDs back in February 1999 when they released Alice In Wonderland and Dumbo. At the time they hadn't released ANY animated classics on DVD in the US which seemed rather strange.

Since then, most titles have started appearing first in the US.

According to disney.co.uk we are getting ALADDIN in October and BAMBI in March 2005, although those two seem to have similar release dates worldwide. There is no mention of HOME ON THE RANGE, MULAN or MARY POPPINS, though.

In fact, according to the UK site there are only 42 animated classics!!!

I believe Disney doesn't care much about their non-American buyers.

Well, the Pocahontas release was to be April this year - it was on some retailer sites and published in printed DVD magazine's upcoming release lists.

Then it was pulled for no reason...

Disney UK don't seem to care about the UK market at all (single disc Brother Bear, single Disc Lion King 2 etc).
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

It seems normal for disney not to update their classics list very often! Treasure Planet was not added until a couple of months ago!

Two discs are great. But "Mulan" gets one. Today I read the Dutch press release, if they'll get one the UK gets one too. That's for sure.
Now hoping for "Alice in Wonderland", "Mary Poppins" and "Pocahontas".
"Lilo & Stitch" has that one already been released R1 as a Masterpiece Edition?
Based on what's been through the BBFC, the UK will get a 2 disc Mulan release. But then again, we had to wait 10 months for the 2 disc Sleeping Beauty even though it's content was passed at the same time as the single disc release!
