Re: Disney to Remake Pete's Dragon

I could be wrong but there doesn't seem to be much excitement around it and the trailers are underwhelming. Is the original even a beloved classic anymore? Kids certainly don't know anything about it.

I think this will bomb like The BFG and Disney live action is going to primarily stick to more uninspired remakes of its iconic animated films.

The first reviews are in, and they are mostly positive so far.

This movie is amazing!!!!!! It definitely is its own film. It is very beautiful thanks to the setting of the woods. Good take-away messages about family, friendship, and home. I definitely recommend seeing this. (And if you love dogs, Elliot has some moments that will make you smile.)

Don't post here often but had to post that I saw this over the weekend and was absolutely blown away. It really, truly felt like one of the late 70's/early 80's live action films Disney used to make. I kept getting that vibe throughout the entire thing. The plot was great, the acting was fantastic, and the end had me in tears. One of my favorite movies of the year by far. Made me feel like a kid again. This deserves the same kind of love the other recent live action Disney films have gotten recently.

I had wanted to rent this from Redbox but it left before I could. I finally decided to buy it for cheap at my mall, just to see it, and unless I reeeally liked it, just give it away to Goodwill when I'm done.

So I watched it and...well...it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. It wasn't even really ok to me. It was generic, formulaic, bland, and meh. Yeah, it was touching in the beginning and then in the very end climactic moment, but honestly it just wasn't really worth watching to me except for quelling curiousity and being servicable entertainment. Not a lot happened. You don't get a deep attachment to like anyone and don't see how deep Pete and Elliot's characters or even how deep their relationship is. Pete is kind of just like a ferral, confused nice boy and Elliot scares off animals for him and lets him ride on his back. And the guys who hunt Elliot don't have much clear or good motivations for doing it.

The original is the much better, true classic. I would say this is just a little better than Through the Looking Glass as the least good Disney remakes. I don't know why it got such good reviews.

Everything in this movie looks ugly and the plot looks so generic and boring.

Let me gusese Bargebin Gastoon wants to caapture the Dragon. But Pete, Ron Hiwars's duagther as generic mother figure and I am too good for this movie Robert rEdord will try stoping them.

And there are lots of sappy secens pete and his ugly CGI dragon.

Also no songs. No funny oressfor and no Shirley Winters !

Who would want to watch a movie without Shirley Winters when you can watch a version( of the same movie) with her iin it ?

Also no drunken Mickey Rooney sailor. Guess that doesn't fly in 2016 ?

I am sure the only reason David Lowery did this movie was so the pay cesh from Disney could fund his personal projects.

I would watch the movie before randomly bringing this thread up twice to trash it when you haven’t seen it. It’s a beautiful movie filled with heart. It’s heralded as one of, if not the best, live action remake, and for good reason.

I liked the movie, too. Of course, I think I've only seen the original once or twice, which might be why any changes didn't bother me so much here.

I agree that you (DisneyFan97) should watch this film because there might be elements you like. I have no love for the original film but to be honest, the remake wasn't much better for me either. I've never understood the hype that critics gave this film which is why I have to agree with audiences who gave it a wide berth.
