Re: Moana
I'm a little dissapointed over the teaser poster being the former concept art. It could've been another motive which hadn't been shown befofe.
While that being said, I'm definitively looking forward to the teaser
It's about time for some new info of the movie.

Re: Moana
I overall loved it. I wish it was more focused on Moana, but she has a good screen time. The trailer is really beautiful with the art style and got the chills everywhere. I am so glad they showed the song (really happy Lin is in it!). My big issue is it is really disrespectful they didn't credit Clements and Musker at the beginning while they showcased the revival.

Re: Moana
To give my thoughts:
The beginning of the teaser was at least something in vein of old Disney. It kinda reminded me of the animation of the vase figures on Hercules and the hand drawn segments on Kung Fu Panda. For all the remarks of Disney not wanting to do hand drawn animation anymore, it's good that they've found a way to snuck it in.
Either way, it's obvious that Maui will be the scene-stealing character, but perhaps he'll risk to be too obnoxious. And he's obviously able to turn himself to a different creature.
Otherwise great animation. Moana is better designed and animated than both Rapunzel and the Frozen sisters. She looks like a CGI version of a Mark Hehn drawing. The setting is quite reminiscent of what you usually assume of a tribal Polynesian setting. More than Lilo & Stitch, though it risks to be compared too much to it.
Interesting that this movie will have a Moses reference
. The water parting as they walk on it.
I detested the last shot with the rooster. I hoped we could hear more of the songs than just the one that was already leaked. But I liked this teaser better than the Frozen teaser.
Despite the mediocricy of the Tangled teaser, at least it had some clips from the movie, while the one of Frozen was in the same vein as the Pixar teasers.

Re: Moana
—It was disappointing that the trailer focused so much on Maui. They made it like Maui's the lead and Moana's the supporting character. She literally just said 'Um' during the whole thing. Even though this is expected from Disney by now, it's still annoying and sexist. The movie's named after her, for crying out loud.
—I really didn't like Maui's character. I found him loud and obnoxious and his design disproportionate and unappealing.
—I enjoyed the effects, the environments and the overall art direction. It was bright, lush, and colorful.
—The song was OK but not very memorable. It had a generic Polynesian sound and was reminiscent of Lilo and Stitch and Brother Bear. The singer's voice kind of reminded me of Phil Collins too.
—The opening 2D animation was nothing special either. The graphic, minimal animation shtick is something we've seen before a lot especially as part of opening or ending credits in movies. The stylized creation myth was reminiscent of the ones in Hercules and The Road to El Dorado.
—Overall, the teaser was just 'meh'. It wasn't bad but not good either. Disney hasn't made a truly great teaser for their animated movies in ages.

Re: Moana
This is way, way better than Frozen's teaser trailer, for one. Also better than Big Hero 6's or Zootopia's. So, I'm happy with that. I was honestly only expecting them to do something with the pig and rooster sidekicks. Dwayne Johnson's voice acting is less distracting than I though it would be, and the visuals look like they could be jaw-droppingly gorgeous on a big screen. It's also cool how they used Maui's tattoos as a framing device.
The focus on visuals and music did honestly bring me back to teasers for older Disney films. Also, I don't think Lin wrote that song, since they previewed it back at D23 and he didn't have anything to do with that.

Re: Moana
So true. And I'm over it. Frozen has proven that people will turn out in droves for a movie with female protagonists. They don't have an excuse for hiding them anymore.Sotiris wrote:—It was disappointing that the trailer focused so much on Maui. They made it like Maui's the lead and Moana's the supporting character. I haven't watched the trailer and now I have no plans to. Thanks for warning me. Always best to expect the worst from Disney.Me, 4 Days Ago wrote:I'm sure the teaser trailer will be all about Maui and/or the sidekicks.

I don't really think it's the sexist thing, but the fact that Maui has the "Rock" attached to him.

Re: Moana
The teaser was ok but its basically Maui:the movie. You'd think after the success of Frozen, Disney wouldnt again resort to the "female character isn't really the main character" shtick in their teasers...wow. Then again they probably think suckering men & boys into thinking Frozen was about a funny snowman was the primary reason it was so successful in the first place.
anyway, the art is lovely, loved the Hercules vase art nod with the tattoos, liked Maui's movements/expressions, very nice vistas...still wish we could have seen more of Moana. Nice teaser poster too.

Most likely. Next to Maui. Was he written to be like a Disney sidekick as the Genie?Sotiris wrote:Agreed. I have a feeling that Hei-Hei will be annoying and gratuitous as a character.
I'm a little surpised. For some reason I thought you would like it, due to your interest in hand drawn. The opening 2D animation was nothing special either. Even this one was superior https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQBy6jqbmlU
But surprising that UK is launching the trailer prior to US.
