I went on Friday and it was pretty amazing! For something that was so last minute, they did a great job putting it together. Of the performances, the best were obviously Tituss Burgess and Norm Lewis. The weakest link was Darren Criss. His version of "Her Voice" was disappointing. Rebel wasn't that great of a singer either, but her theatrics as Ursula was perfect! John Stamos was impressive, and the kid who played Flounder was adorable. The live orchestra was perfect! They did not miss a beat and were totally in sync with the film. The highlight was of course when Jodi Benson came out at the end and performed! It was beautiful. The audience was also interactive. Overall, it was definitely worth the $70 I spent.

You can watch the entire June 4th performance, here. I suggest you do so quickly before Disney takes down the video.

The only thing I really got out of seeing this (via YT lol), was Bareilles and the violin medley. Tituss Burgess is phenomenal, but I've already got the OBC to listen to him. Norm Lewis is a great singer, just not to my taste for Triton. *shrug* I enjoyed Darren Criss, even if he did something similar to Drew Seeley's pop version of "Her Voice" where I'd have preferred to hear the song as it is in the musical. I liked Rebel's mannerisms (and I'm generally a fan of her), but I wouldn't want her as a part of a film version, tbh.

This is a video of Jodi singing the reprise at the concert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRFjdB7IQj4
And here she sings If Only from the musical: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLNecDGGqTU --> wow! This shows, for me, that she is the one and only Ariel. This song could have been in the movie :)

I have listened to the songs posted by various users on YouTube, and Sara Bareilles is just about perfect, and I love how she sings the Part of Your World reprise, she really gives a heartfelt performance, especially during the last verses. Jodi Benson is fantastic, and I got tears in my eyes, while hearing her perform the song and the reprise. It's just amazing how she can sound like the 16 year old princess even 27 years after the movie was released.

I wish I could have been there. Thank God for YouTube! :D

The concert was so successful they're doing it again this year on May 17 and 18.

I love her, too. Although I hated her in Glee, I do like how she sings, and I think she will do great. :D

I knew Lindsay Lohan was after playing Ariel in the live-action remake, but it seems like she wanted to snag this role as well.

I’m not exactly too fond of Harvey playing Ursula. Yes, he’s very talented and all, but he sounds too much like he’s been smoking a few too many cigarettes.

Oh, I thought it was just the little girl with her popcorn, I didn't know it was all those kids! And I didn't know that about Sebastian's bit!

^Me neither, I also thought it was just the kid with the popcorn. I'm glad they found a way of saving the scene from being cut!

Yeah, thank God they used Sebastian to help save it along with Glen Keane explaining to Katzenburg why the song needed to be in the film.

I suppose, without Sebastian in the background giving her judgmental looks and acting terrified of the human things, I can imagine how it might border on becoming a little too sappy.

Lea absolutely kills it as Ariel. There are a lot of videos out there, but these are the best:

She wouldn’t have been my first pick considering she doesn’t look the part and she’s on the older side, but I’d definitely take Lea Michele in TLM over…ahem, lesser options. :x At least she can act and sing. Zendaya isn’t good at either of those things. I think I’d take Rebel Wilson over Gaga, too—although I would absolutely prefer neither of them got the role of Ursula, tbh. What a sad state of affairs.
