The sequel will be called Mary Poppins Returns and it’ll be released Christmas Day 2018. So, you’d imagine a third film to be called Mary Poppins Forever followed by Mary and Jack, then Mary Poppins Begins, followed by The Mary Poppins, The Mary Poppins Rises and then rebooted with Mary Poppins V Amelia Bedelia.

Re: Mary Poppins Returns
Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins sounds like an interesting choice. If it's going to be a musical, she won't disapoint, because in Into the Woods she was awesome.
Let's just wait and see what they'll do with this one.

While I like Emily Blunt as an actress, her singing is certainly subpar, especially when compared to Julie Andrews.Sicoe Vlad wrote:Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins sounds like an interesting choice. If it's going to be a musical, she won't disapoint, because in Into the Woods she was awesome.

If anyone was to follow in Julie Andrews footsteps, I'm so glad they picked Emily ! She is beyond talented, and has proven herself time and time again with regards to her voice.
My only worry is the music - the songwriters will be hard pressed to out do the original .. I wonder is Sherman will come onboard to assist ?

Re: Mary Poppins Returns
isnt Lin-Manuel also doing the music for one of the animated films? Gigantic I think?
Will he be doing music for this?
Will he be doing music for this?
Re: Mary Poppins Returns
He’s doing the songs for Moana, the songs of Gigantic are being done by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. I was also wondering if Miranda was going to do the music for this film apart from being part of the cast, but according to IMDb Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the songwriters of Hairspray and Smash, are going to compose the songs and the score, so I suppose he has only been cast as an actor this time.unprincess wrote:isnt Lin-Manuel also doing the music for one of the animated films? Re: Mary Poppins Returns
Not that I'm complaining (since I do like her), but where does all the love for Emily Blunt come from? Before she appeared in Into the Woods, the only thing I knew her from was a bit role in The Devil Wears Prada. I think she's about as good a singer as anyone in modern-day film musicals.

Re: Mary Poppins Returns
Emily Blunt was really good as a rock-hard, no-nonsense warrior in Edge of Tomorrow, and I guess that's not too far from Mary Poppins (or, at least how P.L. Travers originally wrote her).

Re: Mary Poppins Returns
Oh Divinity, you need to check out a few others of her back catalogue ! For me, my personal favourites are :Disney's Divinity wrote:Not that I'm complaining (since I do like her), but where does all the love for Emily Blunt come from? Wild Target
My Summer of Love
Gideon's Daughter
Irresistible
The Young Victoria
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
Although she's not a starring role, her turn as Katherine Howard in the Henry VIII mini series is just heartbreaking; very much worth a watch just for her.

thanks,
yeah its kinda odd to cast him and not have him involved in creating the music somehow. I guess since he was already on the Disney payroll for Moana they decided to cast him for this (and maybe score some PC points in the process.)

Meryl Streep Joins Emily Blunt in ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel

Is Meryl Streep ready for a spoonful of sugar?
Sources tell Variety, the Oscar-winning actress is in talks to join Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel-Miranda in Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns.”
If a deal closes, the family film would reunite Streep with the “Into the Woods” musical team of Blunt, director Rob Marshall, and producers Marc Platt and John DeLuca. Streep and Blunt also shared the screen in “The Devil Wears Prada.” Marshall and John De Luca are also producing.
Streep is said to play the role of Poppins’ cousin, Topsy, a supporting role that wasn’t in the 1964 classic. Streep would also sing for the part, much like she did in “Into the Woods,” which earned her a record 19th Oscar nomination.

Re: Mary Poppins Returns
Topsy? I don't think I've heard of that character.
Re: Mary Poppins Returns
I thought the character was probably invented for the film, but it seems she's actually a character from the books.DisneyJedi wrote:Topsy? I don't think I've heard of that character.
Source: http://whatculture.com/film/meryl-stree ... usin-topsyIt would appear that Mary Poppins Returns will actually follow at least some of the plot of PL Travers' Mary Poppins Comes Back, the first sequel in the series first published in 1935. Miss Topsy was first introduced in that book as the betrothed of Poppins' cousin Mr Turvy (they marry and she becomes Topsy Turvy, of course).
The name comes from the fact that the pair live in a strange backwards world where up is down and black is white (on account of Mr Turvy not being born a girl as he should have been). So we can expect a fun performance from Streep.

Wow, cool! I love Emily Blunt, and I think it's a brilliant idea to bring back Julie Andrews and Dick van Dyke.

Re: Mary Poppins Returns
Until that info is released by a more reputable source, I would take it with a grain of salt. Surprised they didn't go all the way and say Glynis Johns is returning, who is in frail health and in a care facility in the Hollywood Hills.Mickeyfan1990 wrote:OK, now it just got real!:

Whishaw will play the character of a grown-up Michael Banks, who is a key figure in the new story. Banks experiences a personal loss and sees the return of his big sister Jane. That results in the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins (Blunt), who teams up with her lamplighter friend Jack (Miranda) to help the family.
