Re: Finding Dory
I can' wait too see this. When is it going to be released in the UK? I want to try and see this in the cinema.

I saw it on Facebook. It looks really nice. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. Disney has some promissing titles planned for theatrical release this year.

Re: Finding Dory
The first is obviously the truth since it came first (and we know Pixar's company policy--which has bled over to Disney--is to tell lies when the truth is unflattering), but ultimately it amounts to the same thing. Disney wanted sequels to these films and they were going to have them with or without Pixar. I believe Pixar agreed to join Disney, not just because they'd already had a successful partnership prior, but because the only way to give Disney what they were determined to have without their films/characters being ruined was to create the sequels themselves.Sotiris wrote:Source: https://www.yahoo.com/movies/finding-do ... 35331.html“Disney doesn’t request those things,” he tells Yahoo Movies, referring to the series of sequels that Pixar has on its upcoming slate. “That was the deal when Disney bought us.”

Everything about the 3D era at Disney screams franchise. Every movie they've made since Tangled seems to come with sequels in mind. I still say this is a part of the reason why we have titles like Tangled, Frozen, and Gigantic--because Rapunzel 2, The Snow Queen 2 and Jack and the Beanstalk 2 are off-putting titles.

Re: Finding Dory
Well, the quotes don't necessarily contradict one another. I'm sure they're both true in the sense that, officially, the deal is that Disney doesn't request sequels and won't move ahead with one without Pixar on board. But of course, the deeper truth is that Disney has enough power to pressure Pixar to do whatever they want them to.
The point Disney's Divinity makes about the partnership seems pretty on point.
And that could be true about the modernized titles, but giving them subtitles instead of a numbers would remedy the sequel titles feeling off-putting. Though I guess it isn't really common for animated sequels to go that route.

Re: Finding Dory
I watched the trailer last night. I'm still not feeling this. The new trailer mostly seems to rely on variations of jokes that were Finding Nemo, though I suppose the intention was to call back on the audience's love for that film.
Although I think it's a good film, I've never been the biggest fan of FN, and while I think the direction they are taking with FD could be compelling if done right, the marketing hasn't really done much to convince me that they really came up with a story that warrants a sequel. Hopefully it turns out to be brilliant and it blows me away, but right now, I'm more excited about films that are still years away.

Re: Finding Dory
I so badly want to be looking forward to this totally and utterly, but still not feeling it 100% ? I mean, of course I'll go and see it as I loved Nemo so much, but nothing is particularly grabbing me from what we've seen so far. Really happy to be (hopefully) proven wrong !

New poster:

Also, an official synopsis was released last week. There aren't many new things revealed, only descriptions of some of the new characters.
By the way, the book pages previewed on Amazon and Google Books that spoiled the film's story have been removed from those sites. I was tempted to read them, so at least I don't have to worry about that anymore.
About the trailer, I love the characters from Finding Nemo and I'm excited to see them again on the big screen, but I fear this sequel will be more along the lines of Cars 2 or Monsters University than Toy Story 3.

Source: http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-pix ... sed-84878/Disney/Pixar’s Finding Dory welcomes back to the big screen everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang Dory (voice of Ellen DeGeneres), who’s living happily in the reef with Nemo (voice of Hayden Rolence) and Marlin (voice of Albert Brooks). When Dory suddenly remembers that she has a family out there who may be looking for her, the trio takes off on a life-changing adventure across the ocean to California’s prestigious Marine Life Institute, a rehabilitation center and aquarium. In an effort to find her mom (voice of Diane Keaton) and dad (voice of Eugene Levy), Dory enlists the help of three of the MLI’s most intriguing residents: Hank (voice of Ed O’Neill), a cantankerous octopus who frequently gives employees the slip; Bailey (voice of Ty Burrell), a beluga whale who is convinced his echolocation skills are on the fritz; and Destiny (voice of Kaitlin Olson), a nearsighted whale shark. Deftly navigating the complex innerworkings of the MLI, Dory and her friends discover the magic within their flaws, friendships and family.

Re: Finding Dory
I just noticed: Are Nemo's fish tanks friends going to be in this? I know the guy who is Gill said he was recording lines, but I haven't seen him since. And what about Bruce?
Re: Finding Dory
Here are some official character and location descriptions:
http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-fin ... ons-84999/
Andrew Stanton also said in 2013 that the whole gang was going to return:
I also noticed an important difference between how the story was described then and the recently released official synopsis:
http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-fin ... ons-84999/
I searched for it and Willem Dafoe, the voice of Gill, said that in 2013. Maybe the story has changed since then and his character has been removed from the script. Vicki Lewis, voice of Deb/Flo, was also confirmed for the sequel back then:disneyprincess11 wrote:I just noticed: Are Nemo's fish tanks friends going to be in this? Source: http://screenrant.com/finding-dory-nemo ... afoe-gill/Up to now, the only Finding Nemo supporting player to have been confirmed for the sequel was Vicki Lewis, again voicing Deb and her “sister” Flo (who has an odd habit of vanishing whenever there’s no mirror around). However, Willem Dafoe has now revealed that he’ll be back as Gill, the heavily-scarred Moorish Idol fish and leader of the Tank Gang
Andrew Stanton also said in 2013 that the whole gang was going to return:
Source: http://www.slashfilm.com/finding-nemo-s ... r-25-2015/According to Stanton, “Finding Dory” takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others.
I also noticed an important difference between how the story was described then and the recently released official synopsis:
Source: http://www.slashfilm.com/finding-dory-c ... gene-levy/the story picks up one year after Finding Nemo. Dory’s family is living on a reef, and her memory loss is still a problem. A traumatic event sets off Dory’s “homing instinct,’ according to Stanton. So as she goes off on some kind of search for her family, Nemo and Marlin are looking for her. So two searches take place at once.
Maybe when there were going to be two searches in the film, more characters were going to appear, because perhaps Dory would find some characters in her way and Marlin and Nemo others. I think I prefer the new version of the story, because the former was too similar to Finding Nemo. Anyway, the characters that we do know are returning, apart from the main ones, are Crush and Mr. Ray. If some of the others are returning too, I don't think they will have a big role in the film, otherwise they would have been already announced, unless they are hiding a character for some reason like they did with Bing Bong in Inside Out. But it would be nice if some of them made at least a little cameo. When Dory suddenly remembers that she has a family out there who may be looking for her, the trio takes off on a life-changing adventure across the ocean to California’s prestigious Marine Life Institute, a rehabilitation center and aquarium.

Re: Finding Dory
I can see why they would have changed that. Having two searches going on simultaneously for most of the film would be needlessly complex.

Notice how the side-kick characters are now the face of these decade old franchises.
Re: Finding Dory
Scrat has always been the main focus in Ice Age's marketing. The teaser trailer for the first film was basically the opening scene. He was certainly the only enjoyable part of Ice Age: Continental Drift, that's for sure.
