Well, they are movies about prejudice and racism in society. But I remember didn't HOND get rave reviews when it came out, and was regarded as a classic because of it's darker tones and themes. They also both have a villain that is racist against a subsection of society and wishes to do away with them.DisneyEra wrote:NeverLand wrote:Wow![]()

Disney’s animated charmer is in its 3rd week overseas with $81.4M to date. The Byron Howard/Rich Moore-helmed animal tale added another $30M in the frame, a 4% drop from last, with no major market openings. It’s playing in about 42% of its international rabbit’s footprint — 31 territories. France is lapping up the well-reviewed story of a sly fox and a perky bunny who hook up to uncover a conspiracy. The cume there is already $16.3M. In Korea, Zootopia hopped over Deadpool to take the No. 2 spot after jumping +30% from last weekend. The cume there is $7M. Plays across Europe, South East Asia and Latin America were all strong. Next weekend’s major bows are Germany, Russia and China.
Zootopia is looking to match DreamWorks Animation's first 2 Kung-Fu Panda features which'd grossed $632 & $666 million worldwide respectively. Should have no problem doing so

Re: Zootopia
I'm glad that Zootopia is doing well at the box office. I think the film deserves it.
Here's a video to learn how to draw Judy Hopps with director Byron Howard.

Re: Zootopia
I just saw the movie guys and it's amazing. It's intelligent, sharply written, and it conveys current real-life issues with care and subtlety but doesn't hit you on the head with its message. Both leads are wonderful, very relatable (character flaws and all) and the voice acting is top-notch. There is lots of humor but it's not pervasive and it doesn't disrupt serious, moving scenes. Given the premise, I expected (or rather feared) much more visual gags and gimmicks, but they're thankfully confined to background action and the only scene in which they are prominent is during Judy's arrival to Zootopia.
There are however several things I found lacking. First, I felt the villain was bland and non-threatening and her motivation and actions were weak and very two-dimensional, which didn't compliment the rest of this wonderfully crafted movie. Frankly, I'm not sure it needed a villain at all and I wish they found some way around having one, but it definitely deserved better than what we got. Second, the pacing had its issues and some scenes could have been brisker. One clear example is the sloth scene which was used for the trailer where it's more energetic and flows better than in the actual film. It's still funny though. Third, some characters were basically useless and served practically no purpose, such as Gazelle, who along with her wishy-washy song could have been excised from the movie completely, but I guess they needed a selling point in Shakira. And finally, some pop cultural references were just too much, namely The Godfather one and not one, not two, but three (!) references to Frozen, one of which was kind of mean-spirited and felt like it came out of Shrek or Chicken Little.
But other than those minor complaints, the film was superb. Speaking as someone who doesn't usually care much for Disney's animal films, I really think this could be Disney's best film in over a decade.

Re: Zootopia
Wow, that's some pretty high praise. (Not that the last decade has been among the studio's best years, but they've had a couple of stand-outs IMO.) But the recent marketing has definitely been catching my attention, and the reviews seem quite good so far, so my anticipation for the film has definitely been growing as the release day approaches.Mooky wrote:But other than those minor complaints, the film was superb. For me, Frozen and BH6 were a step down from Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph, so here's hoping that Zootopia and Moana mark a step back up. Won't get my hopes up too high, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Re: Zootopia
They did a Zootopia Real Housewives parody during this week's episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills that I thought was clever.

Re: Zootopia
What's particularly notable about that is that the average rating is sitting at 8.1 not only for All Critics, but for the Top Critics as well. If it can maintain that score, I'm fairly certain that would be higher than any of the more recent films from Disney Animation.disneyprincess11 wrote:60 Reviews. 100% PERCENT. Still, there are probably about 100 more reviews that will come in before it settles on a final score, so it could go either way. Though at this point, I'm fairly certain it won't dip below 90% on the Tomatometer or below a 7.5 for the average score.

Re: Zootopia
The more trailers I see of Zootopia, the better it looks. I'm still not understanding the apparently hilarious sloth scene, but that's okay. I probably won't see it in theaters, but I may just have to pick up the Blu-ray.

Apparently according to this article when the story still had Nick as the main character, it was more of an oppressive dystopia where predators were look down upon by the majority prey population who put shock collars on the predators so it could suppress their old instinctual urges. Man, I agree with their decision to get rid of the shock collars because it really shows how unpleasant Zootopia is and why anyone with a tread of decency would want to live there. Like they said in the interview, it would have been hard for the audience to connect with the world of Zootopia since it was so mean spirited.

OMG I can't believe how good this movie was! Wow.
I think this might be Disney's best film since Wreck it Ralph!

I wonder if Disney should be daring and register it for Best Picture awards for next year's Oscars and Golden Globe Awards.taei wrote:OMG I can't believe how good this movie was! Wow.

Re: Zootopia
I loved it as well. Knowing bias was a big part of the film's theme, I expected it to be preachy, but it didn't come across that way. Lots of humor, some heart without being over the top. I'll definitely see this one in theaters again.

I'm beyond shocked (in a good way) that of all of the Disney Revival movies, it's ZOOTOPIA who get the universal praise at 98%
I can't see this for a while because of a huge homework load (Last semester of college), but man I have high expectations for this!
