Disneyland 60th Anniversary Special

Post by Barbossa »

Anyone else watching this?

I'm sitting here and thinking Bill Murray's line from Scrooged: "My gosh! Does that suck."

One of the worst TV specials I've ever seen coming from Disney. This is as bad as their annual Christmas Parade specials. It's supposed to be about the original park, but it's an infomercial about everything else. Makes their shareholders look like pimps. :(

The performances were twice as long as they needed to be, which was my main problem. I almost changed the channel during the Little Big Town performance (why'd they pick a non-Disney song for the least interesting performers?). Otherwise, it was everything I expected it to be based on the Christmas Parades. An advertisement for the Disney brand as a whole rather than Disneyland. I do have to say, though, it's pretty effective. They sold me to the Star Wars Experience because it looks like it could be immersive to stand up to Universal's Harry Potter pimping (even if I pray that the name's just a placeholder). Still, my roommate and I ended up talking about our favourite Disney movies and Walt Disney World memories to keep us distracted during the performances.

Is there anything to this special besides musical performances and a quick mention about the upcoming Star Wars stuff?

Like, anything actually related to Disneyland?

Josh Gad took viewers to places normally closed to Disneyland guests including Walt Disney’s private apartment above the firehouse as well as the Disneyland Dream Suite.

I liked the special, seeing Dick Van Dyke dancing to "Step In Time" one more time was magical!

And Elton John performing "Circle of Life" is priceless!

Idina Menzel did a great job with "Let It Go" and Kermit the Frog with Tori Kelly singing "The Rainbow Connection" was one of my favorite performances.

There were some great performances and I'm glad I saw it but I wish it would have focused more on the park. It is the reason they were supposedly celebrating after all.

Is this special available for download? I would love to see it.

I just received the Walt Disney special, which aired last year, in September on PBS, on DVD, and it's great. The first episode seemed to focus mainly on Snow White's production. While many of the facts presented were well known, I love that they included pieces of rough animation, and some never before seen behind the scenes footage.

I keep searching for the Snow White documenary, which aired on ABC, in December. Does anyone have it? :D

I enjoyed the special for what it was: a tribute to Disneyland. Was it perfect? No. But it was better than the Christmas Parades tend to be, these days.

The thing that sucked was the Second Screen app. I was expecting trivia, or maybe the images they were playing on the big screens in the theater. But nope. Just silly animation to go with the performances.
