I don't know how many other Star Trek fans there are here, but I thought since this is the 50th Anniversary of The Original Series, I'd start off a thread for all things Star Trek and it's 50th anniversary. Feel free to share favorite memories from the franchise, talk about what you are most excited for this year in celebration of the 50th anniversary or whatever else.
I really want this to be a more positive thread, so even if you really don't like a part of the franchise (like I can't stand the reboot films), let's try and bypass comments we might not like and focus more on what we do like. For me, that's everything before the reboot films, but for some it may be the reboot films, or just TNG or just TOS or some other combination. Let's not forget DS9, Voyager or Enterprise. Even The Animated Series is fair game.
I'll start things off. For me, I've been a huge fan of Star Trek for a long time. At least since the early 1990's and maybe even a bit further back then that. My love of Star Trek was only ever rivaled by my love of Disney and maybe soccer. After Enterprise went off the air, I was really sad with there not being any new Star Trek but I was still a die hard fan. I even got to work at the "amusement park" at Las Vegas for a while before it closed. After the reboots cam out, I started to loose my fandom. I really didn't like them and found that everything I loved about Star Trek was gone.
Now we come to 2016 and the 50th anniversary, and I've decide that reboots be damned, I'm going to enjoy this franchise again. I've been working on my AA degree and after 15ish long years, will finally be awarded it this coming spring. While I was working on my last class last fall, I found myself watching Voyager for support. I guess I saw some similar themes to what I was feeling coming to the end of a long journey. I started watching the other five shows and was reminded why I loved this franchise so much.
I love that the heroes don't necessarily beat the "bad guys" by beating them up. In fact, sometimes there are no "bad guys," just moral quandaries to think about. I love that things like learning, honor and camaraderie are among the lessons learned from the heroes of the franchise. I love that despite it's main genre being sci fi, Star Trek has been able to encompass many sub genres within it's various stories. The characters, the music, the stories, I love it all. Even the worst of the franchise has something worth paying attention too. I know that George Lucas seems to get all the credit for this for the competition, but Gene Roddenberry and later Rick Berman and all the various writers behind both of them really were creating modern myth.
Ok, now I pass this on. Are you a fan of Star Trek? Why or why not? Discuss! Also, LLAP!

Re: Official Star Trek @ 50 Thread
Ive only watched TNG. I was a late comer to the series, discovered it on reruns on basic cable in the early 2000's. I absolutly loved Data. Ive been rewatching the series again this year as BBC America is rerunning it.
If I had time Id like to watch DS9 but it never seems to get reaired. Ive tried watching OS but just couldn't get into it, but I respect the series and what it accomplished.
Ive seen the first 2 films and...liked them enough but Im not a diehard Trek fan so... I can see why diehards would hate it though, its a compeletly different animal...
