The book will cover the movie too. It seems to be in the vein of the Charles Solomon books A Wish Your Heart Makes and Once Upon a Dream where they cover the original fairy tales, the animated films, and the live-action ones.

In the case of the new Aladdin book, the synopsis says:
In "A Whole New World", readers will discover the journey from ancient legend to screen to stage in the words of its creators.

If the covers are any indication, at least they won't be using the redesigned versions of the princesses.

Seriously, Sotiris, thanks for keeping this thread updated. I actually tried making a list of all the recent Disney History books I wanted, but I wasn't able to come with anything nearly as complete as what you've assembled here. This is a fantastic reference.

And holy crap a brand new behind-the-scenes Aladdin book somebody hold me.

I'll probably get TP&TF and TLM of those--Tiana looks gorgeous on the cover. Maybe B&tB, too, since the ballroom picture was really nice. Frozen/Tangled just never look quite right when the merchandise turns them 2D. but it's not that they're incapable of looking good in 2D (going off drawings of them during film production that look gorgeous).

Yes, thank you, Sotiris! I'll probably pass on the villains book. It looks filled with info. you could find anywhere else. I did like the little drawing that compared Ursula/Hades, since I always thought they had similar body types.

No problem. I'm glad you find it useful. Although, the list isn't complete as I don't list books about Imagineering or anything theme park-related. You'll have that look for those ones on your own. :P

Now, if only the books weren't so freakin' expensive.

I will be getting both the Aladdin and the Alice books for sure then! And the illustrations in those "princess books" looks really great. Think I have to get those as well.

I just bought four of the Disney Princess storybooks with art that's almost exactly like the original films but with extra shading and lighting. I bought Snow White, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. I was disappointed in Cinderella's, because they gave more pictures to the mice and Lucifer in the beginning and sacrificed any pictures of Cinderella and the Prince dancing. But Cinderella's dress in the transformation scene looked kinda more silverish to me, so yay for that! And also, the book was still the most beautiful to me. But the objective most beautiful one was Snow White's! I thought for sure the close-to-the-film-but-with-lighting-and-shading Sleeping Beauty pictures from some other books I have would be the most beautiful, but Snow White's illustrations NAILED the watercolor backgrounds and sheer beauty of the original film. It truly was the fairest one of all! Beauty and the Beast's book was great, it had a lot of pictures I hadn't seen before. But the happiest surprise to me was The Little Mermaid's because it had even more pictures I hadn't seen before, and it's one of my top favorite films so that combined made me enjoy it so much.

All the books were great. Buy any of these and I'm sure you will be happy!

I'm happy you enjoyed them, Duster. :D I want to buy the entire series as well, but I found it funny that they did not include Sleeping Beauty as well.

Snow White is gorgeous! That will be a must buy for me. Also The Little Mermaid and BATB. It's a pity the BATB colors are more like the platinum/diamond edition, but I suppose that's to be expected.
I'm iffy on Cinderella because of the cover, but I'll give it a look because of Disney Duster's review of it.

I'm hoping Sleeping Beauty and Aladdin will be added to it soon. They both have the new illustrations because of their recent diamond editions. Interestingly enough, the UK has a line of books similar to this with Snow White, The Little Mermaid, and Sleeping Beauty along with Peter Pan and the Lion King. Hoping to see some non-princess books added to the collection as well then.

:D Yea I don't know what happened to Sleeping Beauty. I know there's pictures of Aurora dancing with the animals in Philip's garb and the fairies enchanting Phillip's sword to kill Maleficent that are in a book I don't own and was hoping would appear in one of these books. The book with those pictures has lots of other Sleeping Beauty new stories that make me not really want the book. But you should be quite happy if you get Snow White. If you search online, Amazon.com also will let you order a Snow White book and read-along CD coming this February. I will be checking that one out to see if it has any new pictures that may goad be to buy it.

If you don't own any of the books with the new-style illustrations for Cinderella, I would get this book. It's beautiful, and not reflective of the cover image. My only real complaint is there was no scene of Cinderella and the Prince dancing. But there is still scenes of their meeting and falling in love. And I own other books with them dancing in these new-style illustrations.

It is also quite weird Aladdin didn't get one. I really doubt any books other than the princess ones will get these new-style illustrations, but who knows.

Loving the covers for Pocahontas and Sleeping Beauty and even Brave (as much as I hate to admit it). I do wish they would use a different shade of pink for Aurora though. A deeper rose pink like her actual dress preferably over that light bubble-gum pink.

YES!!! Sleeping Beauty was the last one I most wanted! I'd say it's the one I second most wanted, as it's my second favorite Disney film and Disney's most beautiful film (objectively)! I was so sure they wouldn't do any more of these books!

But one thing is quite wrong - WHERE'S JASMINE'S?!!!!!

I think Jasmine is harder to market considering it is really Aladdin's story and not hers. Then again, that has never stopped Disney before...

Well, Beauty and the Beast is the Beast's story as much as Belle's, if not even more so. I'd say it's somewhat similar with The Princess and the Frog. If Disney really wanted to pursue a Jasmine book, they could have it called it Aladdin: Jasmine's Adventure or something neutral like that. Besides, a large portion of the film itself is dedicated to shaping Jasmine's character and POV, making her a deuteragonist essentially (well, her and the Genie).

All that said, these storybooks look super-lovely. I think I might splurge and get the whole set.

The funny thing is that the filmmakers of Beauty have been contradicting about this issue in the documentaries. For the Platinum Edition the filmmakers stated that they were both equal leads (to quote directly from Don Hahn; "Why do we even have this discussion? It's called Beauty and the Beast"). While in the Diamond Edition, as well as Charles Solomon's book, the Beast is depicted as the main lead. It's confusing and contradicting, but I personally consider them both to be equal protagonists.

These are lovely covers. I'm very excited about Sleeping Beauty. The only one I bought so far is Snow White, which is beautiful. The illustrations are amazing. I have the read along versions of Cinderella and The Little Mermaid, with these updated, movie accurate illustrations, and I love them, so I don't think I will buy those books anytime soon. The only ones I'm interested in are Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty. :)

is the art for Little Mermaid and Cinderella the same as the ones that appeared in the Target blu-ray digibooks?
