Can we please stop calling them "cheapquels"? I liked the two Aladdin sequels. Even though I knew they didn't top the original, I found them and the TV series just as enjoyable to watch, and Disney's put out cartoons with far cheaper looking 2D animation in more recent times than the animation of their early DTV sequels, such as those crudely drawn new Mickey Mouse shorts. Why not direct our accusations on "cheap animation" to the kind of cartoons that really deserve them?
We will not! Because things like the new Mickey shorts ARE well done and that the cheapquels, which they deserve to be called, do deserve the all the finger-pointing in the world.
Plus, the cheapquels were poorly-written in addition to being badly-animated. Those animations are cheap compared to the new Micky shorts et al., which are not crudely drawn at all.

It always bothers me how when you bring up say The Little Mermaid, you risk having someone mention that Ariel had a daughter.
When such a scenario is created where the topic deviates from the first movie, and people are instead trying to justify the cheapquels' existence, the damage is done.
My thoughts exactly. And it ticks me off to no end.
This kind of poisoning has also brainwashed the chuckleheads at the Disney Wiki and also some of the character performers in the Disney theme parks (the only time they should mention cheapquel characters and events to guests is if someone asks about them specifically, otherwise they should not bring them up because it can easily get awkward and uncomfortable--they need to get more strict with such story guideline reeneforcements).
The company REALLY needs to make a huge official announcement of some sort reaffirming the non-canon-ness of the cheapquels and certain movie-based TV shows.
How far back in the thread did you go for those quotes???
Anyway, I always go a little easier on the Aladdin sequels in comparison to the other cheapquels because I see them as part and parcel with the TV series--TRoJ being the beginning and KoT being the ending. But I'm biased because I've always loved the Aladdin series; I wish it still re-runned.
Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Yeah, I wonder if this is why the animated outtakes idea was nixed, too. It makes sense, since Williams' family would have to be paid for that, which he wanted to prevent.

If that was the reason Eric Goldberg would have said they didn't go through with it because of legal reasons, not because Lasseter didn't like the idea. #notbuyingit
I finally got my long awaited copy of the Diamond Edition. The good thing is that the HD transfer looks excellent.!The bad thing is how skimpy most of the bonus features were. "Unboxing Aladdin" was just fluffy and giddy stuff without substance. The same with "Genie 101" (and my, how Scott Weigner has aged, almost to the unrecognizable, no offence). The "Ron and Jon" segment could've been longer for obvious reasons; They've been at Disney at a long time, directed several of Disney's most memorable films and been best friends. The two featurettes which surprised me, were the Robin Williams outtakes, which were funny and surprisingly more substantial than expected. The same with the Broadway featurette, which talked about bits about the movie. But it's truly a pity that the Broadway show is given the most length. Due to the comedic nature of the movie, it's not strange that some of the featurettes had a silly tone, but still.
Now that we have this thread up, there are some questions that I'm curious about "Aladdin";
Do you think Robin Williams/the Genie was the mayor reason for the success of this movie? I know this is entirely debatable, but I've heard many claims who consider Robin/Genie to actually be the saving grace of this movie.
Due to it's irreverent nature, do you think "Aladdin" reached out to a wider audience who weren't originally into Disney movies? At the time, pop culture references were a rarity in Disney movies and "Aladdin" broke the mold. Do you think it attracted even the non-Disney audience because of Robin/Genie?

Interesting. Giving the fact that I own (since I live here) the Spain edition. This one, not labeled as Diamond (same cover as the VHS), it´s almost (if not the same) than the original Platinum release.
I don't know if someone said it but, The Disney Wiki (Blu-Ray Page) is saying that the two sequels of Aladdin are being released the fifth of january this year (happy new year BTW). I also found a picture of the Blu-Ray :
I don't know for you but i'm kind of not excited 'cause for me they arn't amazing movies but I wanna see the work putted into the HD.

Just a question.... Why is there no review for the recent Blu-Ray release of the Aladdin Diamond Edition but there is one for the Snow White Signature Collection Blu-Ray?

Angeldude98 wrote:Yes, I was talking about a DVDizzy review. They've reviewed all of the Diamond Editions except that one, and I've been wondering why.
The Diamond Edition of Sleeping Beauty was never reviewed as well. But sure, it's a pity that Luke haven't reviewed them. Apparently he dislikes fall releases
