Re: Frozen: Part V
You do realize that the point of the documentary is to showcase all of the work that 2D artists put into Frozen's long production, right? Without this documentary, a lot of the work that was put into Frozen while it was still a hand-drawn film would remain hidden. Judging by the description, it's not "giving Disney" support, its moreso "giving the hardworking artists who contributed to Disney's many incarnations of the Snow Queen" support.2Disney4Ever wrote:

Even so, blindly react to it as much as you want. I won't stop you. I'll support this anyways, out of my love for animation and its history, as well as the many animators who recieve inadequate recognition for their work.

But do we really want to witness the great tragedy of this once promising new hand-drawn classic being mutilated into CGI by now corrupt Disney executives?Tangled wrote:You do realize that the point of the documentary is to showcase all of the work that 2D artists put into Frozen's long production, right? Besides, the "work" of the animators currently working at Disney is truly in vain, since the studio isn't meant to be making CG movies. It's exactly that kind of work that's killing off hand-drawn animation.

Handrawn animation lives in television and in the hands of creator driven works. Of course the mainstream animation companies are doing computer animated films including Disney, however, I have seen a real evolution in how they have done their computer animated works.

Most, if not all, of that television animation sucks though. Just look at Mickey Mouse these days.jazzflower92 wrote:Handrawn animation lives in television and in the hands of creator driven works. Again, Disney is putting all it's current efforts into things that they should have no business doing. It's not about trying to make computer animation feel as good as hand-drawn. You can't just make that a replacement for real 2D art! It's just another clever excuse for CG movies to take the place of a perfectly good art form.

Re: Frozen: Part V
My main concern regarding this documentary is whether or not Disney will allow for its release. This is an unofficial, unauthorized documentary, which as far as we know, has no endorsement or support from the Walt Disney Company. It will be much harder getting access to material in the Disney Archives that would prove valuable. In addition, if the documentary plans to include interviews with the filmmakers/animators/etc. (many of whom would presumably still be working with Disney), they'd have to deal with the legal department there in case any gag order goes into effect. Or they could always do it the Dream On, Silly Dreamer way and interview former animators who are not legally bound to the company anymore.
Of course, the optimist in me would love for Disney to not only get on board with this documentary, but also include it in a "Frozen: Legacy Collection" Blu-Ray release filled to the brim with extras.
Then again, this is the company that still refuses to officially release The Sweatbox...
Still, I wholly support the making of this documentary (and whatever blind dreams it may entail; I support art in all forms, not just hand-drawn). I plan on donating to Kickstarter with the next paycheck. I love Frozen, love learning more about it, and a proper documentary that covers its long gestation would be like having my cake and eating it, too. Disney's official documentaries weren't that great (a 6 minute featurette and 3 minute song on the first release, a similar feature on the second release), and even the ABC News special dealt less with the making of the film and more with its release and cultural impact. This seems right up my alley.

My my my!
This is certainly something that's ought to satisfy those who wanted a love interest for Elsa.

Re: Frozen: Part V
That's one of those things that'll divide people, because Elsa was applauded for, among other things, being a central female character that wasn't paired off at the end of her film. I wouldn't mind it, but I can see others being annoyed by it, too.
I saw "Frozen Fever" for the first time today. I enjoyed it, even if it was a bit cutesy. It made me realize how much I like Kristoff as a character, actually (I think he's often overlooked because of the, admittedly great, leads), and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the sequel. Am I the only one who thought part of the song sounded like "Take Me or Leave Me" from Rent (somebody may have posted similar thoughts a long time ago)?

"Frozen Fever" was cute and far superior to "Frozen". I've probably said this before, but anyway. "Making Today A Perfect Day" was a cute song.
Either way, I thought Kristoff was a fairly bland character and one of the many weak links in "Frozen". Kristoff was unfortunately a underdeveloped character when he definitively should've been more developed. And just the archetypical loner who's a loner for no reason. The movie doesn't give him a legitimate reason for being a loner!

It was a nice little short, but I think the idea that it's better than the film is well...
It must be a quota for this thread to have every positive comment followed by something negative, jeez. Btw, a person doesn't need a reason to be a loner. Some people just don't like being around people because of differences in personality.

I wouldn't have thought it will be an actual love interest for Elsa....would think its something like Anna trying to make her feel good about something ? Like maybe she thinks Elsa is sad as she doesn't have someone like she has Kristoff.

Okay, then we can agree to disagree. I think it deserves an explanation for obvious reasons.Btw, a person doesn't need a reason to be a loner. Some people just don't like being around people because of differences in personality.

I personally thought it would be Olaf who knows Anna and Kristoff are a thing, and he (in Olaf's own child like way) wants Elsa to have a special someone.Atlantica wrote:I wouldn't have thought it will be an actual love interest for Elsa....would think its something like Anna trying to make her feel good about something ? I don't get why personality traits need to be explained... The only time it needs to be explained is if that's not their real personality and they're acting differently than they want to--like in Elsa's case.DisneyFan09 wrote: Okay, then we can agree to disagree. I re-watched the short this morning, and I was wrong about the Rent thing. I think Idina is what threw me there when I was trying to place what I was thinking of; I realized it was "Purpose" from Avenue Q that I was reminded of during the first half, which makes more sense considering the Lopezes did both. Still, "cutey" was the right word. Olaf having a line almost exactly the same as one in the film and Oaken's appearance were a little cringeworthy. The Hans thing only worked for me because it made me think even the horses must hate him when they laughed.

Because movies/storytelling are supposed to have layers and reasons behind characterizations to drive stories forward and be more compelling. Therefore it would've been (from a logical pov) more understandable if a loner's motivation were explained. There are exceptions, like Shrek in his feature film (though he's probably not the only example), but at least he's given a logical, understandable reason.Disney's Divinity wrote:I don't get why personality traits need to be explained... But as I previously stated, we can agree to disagree

I thought he was cringeworthy in the movie, but for some reason he was tolerable here.Oaken's appearance were a little cringeworthy.
Haha! Despite his villainy, I thought Hans was somewhat hot, so it's dumb to associate him with poo, yuck! Haha! The Hans thing only worked for me because it made me think even the horses must hate him when they laughed.

And speaking of which, wasn't that stall quite similar to Merida's barn?
It's also remarkable that we're getting a brief peak of a Scandinavian map. Though I've probably ranted priorly about "Frozen" never stating it's exact location. The map seemed a little inaccurate, but could it be the world being different then?

Re: Frozen: Part V
I mean, I don't need to know why Ariel is outgoing or why Cinderella is reserved or Jasmine is sassy. There isn't a reason. Even Anna--there's no need for there to be a story reason for why she's quirky, because she just is. Not trying to change your opinion, I just find that odd is all.DisneyFan09 wrote: Because movies/storytelling are supposed to have layers and reasons behind characterizations to drive stories forward and be more compelling.
