Count me as another one who wasn't in love with the cartoon style.
The backgrounds were bloody gorgeous though.

Re: The Good Dinosaur--11/25/15
It's weird that the movie is coming in 2 months and we're getting NOTHING for this. When it was Frozen or Big Hero 6 around this time, we got trailers, sneak peeks on Disney, clips, book leaks etc.
Re: The Good Dinosaur--11/25/15
We usually get a full trailer in September around the release of this month's family movie. So I expect we'll see further marketing and a new trailer ramp up shortly before Hotel Transylvania 2 opens.

Pixar is really emphasizing the artistic part of this movie. I do have to say it kind of getting Land Before Time feels from this movie.

Very pretty. The logo stands out (in a bad way, I mean).

Here's the international trailer. It shows some new scenes.

I have a curious question to ask.
Is this movie a case like The Land Before Time or Walking With Dinosaurs? You know, how the latter two films were intended to have silent characters, but then some higher ups decided it'd be "better" to have the dinosaurs talk?
I'm just curious. The background this movie are so photo realistic and gorgeous. With those backgrounds, one might have expected that they were intending to make an animated movie with a serious tone. But somewhere down the line they got notes that kept saying "tone it down." And adding voices, I guess, would be a way to tone it down.
Then again, I suppose that because the characters are more simplistic in design that having them talk isn't going to be as jarring as it was in Walking With Dinosaurs.
And I just realized as I was typing the above: the movie takes place ... roughly modern day, right? So I think having the dinosaurs talk is actually implying that dinosaurs over time just happened to develop a language pretty much like the one humans speak.
This movie is kinda cracky.

i think low-dialogue films dont tend to do as well initially as ones with a larger amount. i remember reading local reviews of wall-e and up where there were complaints about how "slow" the first half seemed. the reception seems to improve the older the movie gets. nearly no one remembers spirit, stallion of the cimmaron anymore but whether thats due to the low dialogue or what, i dont know. seems most of the dreamworks films from that era, along with anastasia, all get ignored and forgotten.

Re: The Good Dinosaur--11/25/15
I still have concerns about the window of time that The Good Dinosaur will have to make an impression on the holiday audience.
Turns out in addition to the Peanuts Movie in early November and the new Star Wars movie in December, it will be coming out several days after the latest Hunger Games movie.

Re: The Good Dinosaur--11/25/15
Frozen was released a mere five days after Catching Fire and that didn't hurt it one bit. Tangled also opened shortly after Deathly Hallows Part 1 and was similarly unaffected.
I do think Peanuts and The Good Dinosaur can co-exist peacefully. There have been recent animated films that found audiences, despite competing directly against each other. Even when Minions opened to big numbers, Inside Out still held on. Brave and Madagascar 3 were also side by side on the box-office charts.

Re: The Good Dinosaur--11/25/15
Some reviewers ranted about the decreased dialogue of "Spirit". And while it's easy to assume it as a reason, some dialogue-decreased films have been box office hits, as "Wall-E". And let's not forget about "Bambi", which wasn't a hit initially, but is now heralded as a classic.sunhuntin wrote:nearly no one remembers spirit, stallion of the cimmaron anymore but whether thats due to the low dialogue or what, i dont know.
My impression is that DreamWorks's hand drawn films are more forgotten than "Anastasia". "Anastasia" has it's fanbase and did receive good word upon it's release. I guess "The Prince of Egypt" and "Spirit" has it's fans, but "The Road to El Dorado" and "Sinbad" are simply neglected.seems most of the dreamworks films from that era, along with anastasia, all get ignored and forgotten.

What an amazing, amazing year for Pixar!!!
This is the first that I've heard Arlo's voice. My heart is melting. I think changing the story & going with a younger dinosaur was a great decision. I'm so excited for this movie!!!
I purchased a TGD comforter and an Arlo "pillow pal" today at KMart, so the merchandise is steadily rolling out!
Also, here are 2 new TV promo spots:

Here's another question:
Will there be a cartoon in front of the movie?
