There’s been talk of doing about a minute and a half, two minutes, of new animation for it, that were some sequences that we designed in the original, that I think were cool. There’s been talk of doing 3D. There’s been talk of doing a limited digital release, kind of like Blade Runner had. And all of them kind of blossom and fade. Now, we’re having more serious discussions about doing something in anticipation of the Blu-ray.
But I don’t want the Blu-ray to simply be a higher resolution version of our DVD. I would love to get into some of the stuff, now we all have some perspective, that went into the making of it. There’s a lot of good stories there that haven’t been told about the struggles that we went through. We’ll see what happens, but we are in discussions about it right now.

Re: The Iron Giant Blu-ray
A remastered edition added with two new scenes is coming to theaters. However, a Blu-ray release is unlikely as in the press release there's only mention of a digital one.
Source: http://collider.com/the-iron-giant-retu ... mber-30th/Following the re-release of the film in theaters, a high-definition version of “The Iron Giant: Signature Edition” will be available to purchase from digital retailers in the fall of 2015.

I was hoping this "Signature Edition" would lead to a Blu-ray release, but the mention of a digital release with no mention of Blu-ray is suspect.... Still hoping, but I'll try not to expect anything.Sotiris wrote:A remastered edition added with two new scenes is coming to theaters. Re: The Iron Giant Blu-ray
I really don't get what's the holdup with this film. First, it took them forever to give it the high-def treatment despite the demand and now they're only releasing it on digital while the possibility of a Blu-ray release remains uncertain.
Source: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film ... 18327.htmlWe reached out to a Warner Bros. publicist and this is what they told Cartoon Brew: “Blu-ray plans have not been announced yet. It will be available digitally from digital retailers in the fall.”

Hmm... So the person who wrote the Yahoo article jumped the gun...? Boo.Sotiris wrote:I really don't get what's the holdup with this film. After all of the work they're putting into this new "Signature Edition," it really makes no sense to not release it on Blu-ray. It may have bombed at the box office many years ago, but it has a dedicated following now. I'm still holding out hope.

No release date yet but at least it's coming.
Source: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/dvd/brad-bir ... 19511.htmlToday, Warner Bros. confirmed The Iron Giant: Signature Edition Blu-ray release to Cartoon Brew, noting that the studio doesn’t yet have an official date and reminding us that Bird’s remastered masterpiece of war and peace, which includes two new scenes animated by Duncan Studio, will be available digitally in the fall.
Re: The Iron Giant Blu-ray
I got "The Iron Giant" on sale on iTunes for $9.99 and I am glad I did.
It changed to the "Signature Edition" the other day lol. Looks so much better from when I first purchased the movie.

http://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-tw ... 02615_1445In other news today, director Brad Bird has confirmed on Twitter that the Blu-ray release of The Iron Giant was delayed until the spring so that he could include a newly-produced documentary on the making of the film. Thanks to Bits reader Knox R. for the heads-up!
Alright I'm okay with this. Makes the wait worth it.
