Well, according to Twitter, we do know that "Storm Giants" will be the main antagonist of the film and that Inma's father is their leader. I'm sure the story will be fleshed out quite a bit, but already it sounds quite different from the traditional tale. But that's to be expected, I think.disneyprincess11 wrote:How they are downplaying this fairytale is very, very disappointing. This is not what I expect from Disney at all. I appreciate the effort for the movie to be fresh and the idea is cute, but J&TB should be so much more bigger. I'm not judging it....completely yet, but from what we're getting, I'm very happy that they're releasing Moana first. I can take my time, waiting for this.Sotiris wrote:I'm not fond of the character designs of Inma and Jack at all. I don't like any of the concept art shown in the presentation.

More lyrics from the song (which sounds awful, by the way).

Yes, it does. Hopefully it'll improve over time before this ends up getting released.Sotiris wrote: More lyrics from the song (which sounds awful, by the way).

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

These... these have to be a first draft, right?
I've never been a Lopez fan, but jeez.

Yeah, those lyrics are awful. Kinda worried that that's what they picked as a showpiece for the film. But, it's a long way's off. I have faith in the Lopezes.

Re: Gigantic
I think this song will be the "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?"
They sang it live at the panel with storyboards showing what was occurring. It worked with the storyboards, IMO.
They also gave context for the departure from the main story which is that it's set in Spain during the Age of Exploration and how the new world of giants above parallels the new worlds that others in Spain were sailing out to explore.

I think those are rough draft lyrics at most. Besides, 2018 is three years from now so there is plenty of time for Kristen Anderson-Lopez to work on them more.
She's not Randy Newman guys. Sheesh.

Re: Gigantic
Maybe maybe not. The sponge cake line was because she dropped Jack on a sponge cake in the song. The song is frenetic kind of like Be Our Guest. She treats him like a doll/toy. And they said, "Jack isn't really the type who likes kids."Musical Master wrote:I think those are rough draft lyrics at most. Wait. A song with the memorable, frenetic tone of "Be Our Guest"?! Wow. Color me intrigued.RyGuy wrote:Maybe maybe not. The sponge cake line was because she dropped Jack on a sponge cake in the song. Well, a lot of the "fun" Disney songs might sound kind of basic and amateurish on paper. I won't judge until I actually hear the complete song. It sounds like it could be fun from the people who were there, plus things can change and its only one song out of probably 5 or 6 like others have stated.

LOL at that title, but expected at this point, I guess.
I think it's really too early to say much about the rest. A lot of stuff could easily change between now and the time this gets released.

Re: Gigantic
I personally don't think Kristen Anderson Lopez has the greatest singing voice (much better than mine, mind you) so it was hard to judge the song based on her performance without much orchestration. Part of the time it felt clunky, but I felt that way about some of the songs from Frozen where the first time I heard them was the Lopezes singing them. They were much better in the film orchestrated, sung by better vocalists with engaging visuals. It could go either way but from what they told us about Inma (she was inspired by a real life girl they met on a research trip to Spain - yes, she was blonde), I think it'll work.
As for the fairy tale part, they talked a lot about making a fairy tale, the importance of getting the emotion right, and that was WHY they wanted the Lopezes. They also said that if they do their job right, this could essentially be the definitive version of the story. I am expecting a similar vibe to Tangled. The team seemed like an interesting pairing. Nathan Greno and Dorothy McKim, who was the inspiration for Magee in Prep & Landing.
Not everyone likes Nathan's style, but I have high hopes for this one.

Re: Gigantic
The hate that Gigantic is getting is the same that Tangled/Frozen went through. Bad character designs, bad music, stupid name change, not 2D, ect. As you can see with Frozen's early images, they looked worse than Gigantic's:

But in March 2018, Gigantic will have similar success as the latter two did.

Re: Gigantic
But Kristen Anderson Lopez is still a mediocre lyricist. Frozen has nice songs, but they don't exactly make you think about the words/meaning for more than 1 second. Howard Ashman she is not.
Other than that I agree the response is similar to Tangled and Frozen. The movie should fall in line with those probably. Though I hope more Tangled than Frozen.

Actually Gigantic is starting now just like "Rapunzel" did. Remember this at D23 6 years ago:PatrickvD wrote:But Kristen Anderson Lopez is still a mediocre lyricist. And who could forget this image in late December 2009:

Things then went down hill in Feb 2010 when it was renamed to Tangled & the infamous Pink/Miley Cyrus rough-draft trailer leak.

Re: Gigantic
I'm starting to warm up to the movie. I am still disappointed that they changed Imna from this great warrior to a giant that is a little kid....that plays dollie with Jack (The tea party scene does sound very funny/cute though) and that their version of J&B is not this epic that Disney does best, that Giants sounded like it was. But, it's very original and this is just like Giants with the awesome Storm Gods and stuff. And I am very excited to see the giant world. And that it is in Spain and they will explore that. Eh, there are more positives than negatives.
