interesting, I really hope they dont go for the generic design with the female lead but I have a feeling thats what we'll get. I hope they do something different for the giants too, not just the typical big dumb ogreish look they usually get.

Willie the Giant was an awesome dumb giant though.unprincess wrote:interesting, I really hope they dont go for the generic design with the female lead but I have a feeling thats what we'll get. Re: Nathan Greno's Giants
I didn't mind Hiccup's design so much in the first movie, but didn't care for the one in the sequel. And not a fan of Flynn's design either, tbh (especially when compared to just about every other design that came out before they decided on a final look). As far as him being white--I personally don't care, but I have a feeling pairing a white guy with a Latina girl might get the same backlash Tiana with the European Naveen received.maxxie03 wrote:Yes, the Jack design did resemble Hiccup, but he was still very different though. Just imagine Hiccup and Flynn Ryder mixed. That would be a better way to describe him.
The merchant woman who gives them the beans sounds interesting though.
Why would there be a baby kidnapping? That sounds more like Rapunzel or Rumpelstiltskin, so I hope they don't go with it, personally.disneyprincess11 wrote:A baby kidnapping would be an excellent twist to the movie, especially if the wife comes.
Tbh, I don't think "Jack and the Beanstalks" is any more interesting or complex than "RRH." And I don't think either of them are as popular as tales like Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, B&tB, etc.

The film has been renamed "Gigantic". The songs are by the Lopezes. The previewed a song called "I Love My Little Man" where Inma (the giant) meets Jack. The film is set in Spain in the age of discovery where Jack befriends a female giant.

Well, that was....very disappointing. It sounds cute. But, they could do so much more with the fairytale of Jack and the Beanstalk. A lot more.

Is there some kind of market research that says adjective titles are more appealing? I don't get it.

Re: Nathan Greno's Giants
I know it's not too dissimilar from the title Giants, but Gigantic as a new title sounds particularly corny. I quite like the image, though I fear it may be a bit too sweet with the kid giant. Any film version of Jack and the Beanstalk I had in mind would look a bit quirkier and darker than this. It also looks very much in the style of Frozen and Tangled, but I found those films pleasant to look at so I can let it slip.
That said, while Little Red Riding Hood is a famous and popular story (not to mention highly allegorical), not much happens in it plotwise. It could be extended, but the usual path of feature adaptations usually involves werewolves and other such Twilight tropes.
The original version of Jack and the Beanstalk on the other hand has a good amount of action and plot in it - probably comparable to the original Snow White and Beauty and the Beast. That said, I think it's pretty clear already that this film will probably use the overall premise (a guy gets some magic beans that leads to a world of giants in the sky) while writing an otherwise original adventure.

Speaking from a British perspective, I would say Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk are definitely among the more popular and well-known fairy tales. They may not benefit from the marketing possibilities with princesses, but they're certainly better known than Rapunzel and Beauty and the Beast (not that those stories aren't famous).Disney's Divinity wrote:Tbh, I don't think "Jack and the Beanstalks" is any more interesting or complex than "RRH." Hmm. This might have potential; hurrah for Robert and Kristen Lopez being involved in this and I think that having the giant being a young girl who's curious and befriends Jack could be a good story move. We'll have to wait until 2018 for this one...

Re: Nathan Greno's Giants
I prefer Giants over Gigantic, but I guess the title doesn't really matter; it's going right along with Tangled and Frozen in the whole adjective-title thing Disney's got going on.
The premise sounds somewhat interesting, and I like how it's set in Spain during the 15th or 16th century. I think we need more info though before we start judging it.

Excited for this! I love that's it's set in Spain and a musical with a male lead.

Here's Imna's song, according to a live blog:

I'm very disappointed. First, the title is awful. Second it sounds cute and sounds cool in some elements, but I find it to be rather very immature from a company that nailed Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Snow White, & Snow Queen.
What we had before was so much nicer and Disney-esque:

Re: Nathan Greno's Giants
Basically it's sounding like a giant girl playing with Jack as if he was a dolly. Not that I really care what it's going to be about as long as they're making it be computer animated.

I'm not fond of the character designs of Inma and Jack at all. I don't like any of the concept art shown in the presentation.

Let's hope this movie doesn't wind up as the second-half of a package feature...

Re: Nathan Greno's Giants
How they are downplaying this fairytale is very, very disappointing. This is not what I expect from Disney at all. I appreciate the effort for the movie to be fresh and the idea is cute, but J&TB should be so much more bigger. I'm not judging it....completely yet, but from what we're getting, I'm very happy that they're releasing Moana first. I can take my time, waiting for this.Sotiris wrote:I'm not fond of the character designs of Inma and Jack at all. I don't like any of the concept art shown in the presentation.
