"Whose" animated shorts are these...?

Post by cletus510 »

I'm making a list of all the animated Disney shorts. Part of the list is whose cartoon it is: a Mickey Mouse, a Donald Duck, a Pluto. I do NOT mean who is the main character, but rather whose name is on the title cards. [For example, the 1936 short "Donald and Pluto" doesn't feature Mickey, yet it is a Mickey Mouse cartoon.]

Here are some that I'm missing, along with my current guess to which series they are part. Please respond only if you know FOR SURE whose cartoon it is--you've actually seen the shorts and the title cards.

Canine Caddy (1941) Pluto?
Pluto and the Armadillo (1943) Pluto?
Squatter's Rights (1946) Pluto?
Bubble Bee (1949) Pluto OR "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?
Pueblo Pluto (1949) Pluto OR Donald Duck & Goofy?
How to Catch a Cold (1951) "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?
The Lone Chipmunks (1954) Chip an' Dale OR Donald Duck?
Donald and the Wheel (1961) Donald Duck OR "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?
The Litterbug (1961) Donald Duck OR "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?
Freewayphobia No. 1 (1965) Goofy OR "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?
Goofy's Freeway Trouble (1965) Goofy OR "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?
Steel and America (1965) "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?
Scrooge McDuck and Money (1967) "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?
Sport Goofy in Soccermania (1987) Goofy OR "A Walt Disney Cartoon" (generic)?

Thanks a gajillion!

As far as I'm aware, "Bubble Bee" is most certainly a Pluto short.

"How to Catch a Cold" is a commercial-educational short commissioned by the Kleenex company depicting ways to avoid catching a cold, as the title would suggest.

"The Lone Chipmunks" is one of three credited Chip 'N' Dale shorts. Donald Duck is not featured in this cartoon and I'm almost positive that a Donald card was not put to use as by 1954, credit sequences would have opened with the Donald Duck title theme which would seem very unfitting.

As for "Freewayphobia No. 1" and "Goofy's Freeway Trouble", both would be classififed as educational shorts as they were commonly used as safety instruction for screening in driver's ed classes.

"Steel and America" is another commercial short produced for the American Iron and Steel Institute.

Both "Scrooge McDuck and Money" and "Sport Goofy in Soccermania" would classify as generic shorts.

Everything else Jimmy listed seems on point.

Somebody beat you to it:

http://www.bcdb.com/bcdb/page.cgi?g=Wal ... index.html

As well as:

http://disneyshorts.toonzone.net/

They seem to have split up their shorts listings into every possible variation (by year, by character, by category).

Toonzone's hosted Disney Encyclopedia is not exactly the most accurate of referances.

Yes, but between the two - and the search button above - they could probably find their way to an answer and stop with the stupid questions every two seconds.

Thanks, JimmyJack and Stash. I think until the shorts actually come out (so we can see for sure), I'll put what you guys recommend.

I'm looking for definitive answers. Among the sources, there seems to be some shorts that are credited differently. Maltin was incorrect on some, so I can't trust him completely. And, yes, I had already checked the bcdb.com and toonzone sites. The former is definitely wrong here and there, and the latter doesn't list to which series each short belongs. So no help there.

You are a sad old git, aren't you, "mate"? Your posts often seem to indicate a caustic, bitter, unhappy man who likes nothing more than to write a dozen posts a day on these boards that simply criticize everyone and everything else. Not every question which doesn't interest you is stupid. Even if you do think a question is stupid--just ignore it and move on like everyone else does. We aren't sitting here thinking, "Oh golly, I'm dying to hear what Loomis has to say on this topic! He's always so funny and helpful."

That was sort of cold. He could've been referring to something else, or just joking. Anyways, I think your question is good, as you're probably curious about the exact contents of these treasure sets (like the rest of us!)

Golly - if I wasn't a sad old caustic bitter unhappy git, that would have probably hurt. :P

I don't pretend anybody is interested in what I have to say, no more than I am interested in what you've just said. However, I was simply pointing out that all of that information is available elsewhere, and there are about a million different threads pertaining to the contents of the Treasures and who belongs to what short.

Beside - who is more of a dickhead? The Dickhead who posts bitter musings (me), or the dickhead who feels the need to comment on the bitter musings?

Anyways, I better go post in another thread. I think I feel an anxious crowd awaiting my thoughts in another thread.

First, you didn't understand my question: and you should before flaming someone. I HAVE checked all the sources you mentioned (and others). The shorts I listed are the ones that each source seems to list as being part of a different series. Second, I have looked at the threads. I haven't found one that definitively answers my specific question. If you know of a post that does, fill me in. After all, there are millions in the forum, right?
Beside - who is more of a dickhead? The Dickhead who posts bitter musings (me), or the dickhead who feels the need to comment on the bitter musings?
Yes, I'll happily admit I was a dickhead. I'm afraid I reflexively responded in anger without "counting to 10" first. I apologize. But I will answer that my "dickheadity" was a lesser transgression than yours. I'm tired of it being SO EASY for people to be rude on the internet because they have the safety of anonymity and distance. So I have no problem in being a bit of a dickhead if that means I can call out bigger dickheads, because no one else will.

When anyone points out errors to me, I'm always glad to correct then.

I think we should let sleeping dickheads lie.
Yes, I did use the anonymity of the internet to vent unwanted emotions on unsuspecting posters. And that was wrong and I apologize to all involved.

I wish you luck with your toon database.
