You know what kind of annoys me? How often younger people today say this. What a bunch of crap! Lots of people that like older things can and do also find newer things that they like. The criteria, as it should be for old or new, is is it any good? Is it worth my time? When people like yourself say stuff like "people have a bias for new stuff", it's kind of a cop out. It has nothing to do with it being new and everything to do with it not being someone's cup of tea. Just because I'm a Disney fan doesn't mean I have to like every single new thing the company slaps their name on.2Disney4Ever wrote:If Gravity Falls wins over Darkwing Duck, then this generation's got no taste in cartoons.
People clearly just have bias for the things that are new, when a lot of the cartoons we got back in the 90's were indeed a lot better looking for television than what most people give us for cartoons today.
For me personally, and I'm sure there are plenty others here who feel the same, I'm not a big fan of modern Disney anything for the most part. They seem ashamed almost of their heritage these days and seem more focused on pushing I.P.'s that they have bought or tween drivel over anything else.
That said, while I'm a bigger fan of classic Disney, there are actual Disney projects from the last few years I enjoy. I mostly liked Phineas and Ferb, I was surprised at how much I liked the live-action Cinderella re-make, I really liked John Carter and Tomorrowland, just to name a few and I'm looking forward to the new Tangled show and of course DuckTales reboot and hope booth are good. I'm a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however unlike a lot of other Disney fans, I don't think of those films and shows as "Disney" despite their current ownership and was a fan of Marvel way before Disney ever came into the picture.
Nor did I feel everything from the Disney Afternoon-era was amazing either. I'm not the biggest fan of The Shnookums and Meat Funny Cartoon Show, The Little Mermaid: The Series or Quack Pack and while I mostly enjoy them, I didn't always like Bonkers, Raw Toonage or Timon and Pumbaa. They were hit or miss with me. Just as those shows don't always excite me, I can't say that Gravity Falls, Wander Over Yonder, The 7D, or Star vs. the Forces of Evil do anything for me, and I really despised Fish Hooks. I've watched all of those shows and every time cold not help the feeling of wanting my half hour back. And despite all the praise, I'm not a fan of the new Mickey Mouse shorts. I want to be, but they actually offend me a little. But hey, if it makes you feel any better, I know for a fact that former Disney Afternoon producer Jymn Magon LOVES the new Mickey Mouse shorts, so there you go!
